Cassian wasn't planning on being back in Milliways so soon after the party, its not even been a week on his side of the door. Though with his ribs still hurting and how uncomfortable his recon is being, he's glad of a change of scenery.
He's on one of the couches with a good view of the room, using a pillow to stay in a not too painful position as he works on his datapad. The painkillers from Bar are helping a little, so he's sipping a caf and at times glancing up at Tentacles of Our Waves on the TV. All the squids are gathering for a grand occasion, Cassian hasn't been able to figure out what it is yet.
Later in the day, when he goes up to get something to eat, Cassian leaves a note for Barry.
Barry,
I'm sorry for pressing you on New Year's Eve. My training to push for information came to the surface. You and Cisco are welcome to work on the X-wing and I'll keep out of your way.

She smiles when she sees Cassian, though her eyes briefly flicker over his position.
"You look like you're on the mend. Would you mind some company?"
no subject
He gives a little gesture to a free seat near him.

"Is there anything I can get you?"
no subject
And he has a cup of caf that he's working on which is all he needs for now.

"All right," she answers. "Our crew was having some... personality clashes, but I think we've worked them out." At least, that had seemed to be the case, even if her little wild meiloorun chase hadn't gone as planned.
"But I guess you must've run into some trouble."
no subject
The bigger the crew, the more complications are possible.

"I've seen a few cantina brawls. But I've usually tried to stay out of them."
no subject
And it wasn't a brawl as much as him being pummeled, but brawl's close enough.
no subject
"Sometimes I think I'd be happier staying out of them, but it's not much of an option."
no subject
Its his job to go into those places, he stretches out to get his caf and wraps his hands around the warmth.

“I know the feeling.”
no subject
"Are you worried about some trouble coming your way?"
no subject
"I'm actually pretty sure of it."

"Hey Bar, I really need your help. Is there any chance that you have any nitrile gloves and evidence collection jars? I'm completely out."
He could run back to the station, but he's on-scene now and already super late.
Bar produces the items and Barry's relief is clear. "Thank you."
He starts loading things into his case when Cassian's note appears beside them. Barry picks up the note and reads it, flipping it over and back to read it again, then frowns.
"When did Cassian leave this?" Bar produces a napkin in reply and Barry turns, scanning over the bar for the man.

He folds the note up and tucks it into his back pocket, then shoulders the case. Bar produces a protein bar and Barry picks it up, turning it over in his hands.
"Thanks."
With a sigh, he draws himself up, steeling himself, then heads over.
"Cassian?" Barry stands a few feet from the couch where Cassian is sitting, keeping a clear distance between them.

He doesn't know what to make of Cassian's neutral expression and reply. Awkwardly, Barry shifts his weight, adjusting the strap on his shoulder and searching for what else to say.
Finally Barry just gives, and shakes his head at Cassian.
"What the hell, Cassian?" There's no anger in his voice, but there is hurt in Barry's expression, and obvious confusion.
no subject
He knows he should say more but doesn't want to make excuses, that's not right, "I'm sorry. I saw an opportunity and took it."

Mad makes more sense, someone being angry at him for asking questions feels normal. Cassian adjusts how he's sitting, this is a situation he knows though its been a while since he was in it with someone who wasn't an informant or asset. With them, either it breaks the trust and he leaves or he can pull them closer to the Rebellion.
no subject
"Why?" he asks, point blank. "Why did you have to know? Did you think it was something that was going to hurt you, or someone else?"
no subject
He's a spy, people don't trust him. shouldn't trust him. Then he starts to say something more but stops, this isn't the time to talk out of anything. That wouldn't be fair to Barry who deserves better friends.
no subject
True Barry was keeping a secret, but he also kept Cassian's, and never judged the man for any of it.
He catches that look like Cassian is holding back, and prompts him to go ahead and say it, "What?"
no subject
That last part wasn't exactly what he meant but Milliways continues to feel not truly part of his other life.
