Halloween Happy Hour

Halloween is a tricky holiday. It's the day when all the evil of the world pops out of the ground to say hello. It's also a pretty big party holiday, and for some reason the day people let their kids run around and take candy from strangers. Michael is way too young for anything like that, so he's at home, inside, safely locked away inside.

Wilford, on the other hand, has finished up his ADR for the day and made sure nobody wants him for anything. The door catches him off-guard as he goes to find a party he can crash. But why go crash a party when he can set up his own right here?

The first thing he does is rounds up a couple of rats, explains his plan, and passes them each $100 to get their motivation going. Once they rush back to the kitchen, Wilford starts setting up the rest.

With that taken care of, Wilford mixes himself a drink and settles in for the evening.

In other words, it's still a no.

Wilford shrugs. He's hiding out here, well away from his screaming kid anyway. The nanny can deal with it tonight.

"What, you don't like cute things?" he asks.

Does she look like she likes cute things?

"Messes are not cute."

"You got me there," Wilford says. He's so sick of the messes already.

"But seven teens and no mess?"

He doesn't buy that for a second.

"They're old enough to clean it up themselves."

With only slightly major nagging.

"Either you've found the best-behaved teens in the world, or you're telling tales," Wilford says.

It's probably the second one. He's seen what group homes look like. They look like disasters.

"I run a tight ship."

You know. When she's not running two major businesses.

"Try running it like it's sinking. It's a lot more fun."

Wilford does not run a tight ship, even when he's running a business.

"I don't do fun, or cute."

Says the sequinned, behived woman.

"I do level-headed and logical."

Somewhere, someone is laughing.

"You're dressed like a seventies lounge lizard," Wilford points out, as if she wasn't already aware.

It's meant to counter any one of Tess' points, because it works on most of them.

"Sixties."

It's her only response.

"Like that's any better?"

Wilford is dressed like any other lazy bachelor in the world. It's timeless style, really.

"It's Halloween. I also didn't have a choice."

If hes never dealt with Milliways changeovers, he's a lucky sod.

The powers that be recognise that letting him skip these things is more favourable than the epic rage tantrums that come if he's forced to participate. It's better for everyone this way.

"I haven't dressed up for Halloween since..." He has to honestly think about this. "Since grade school, probably."

Epic rage tantrums are more fun.

"I don't do this deliberately."

Funny enough, most people don't agree.

"You fell into it?"

He's always assumed people just dressed up around here. It's a fairly logical assumption, really.

"The Landlord makes the Bar dress us up. It doesn't come off until Halloween is over."

Or you're doing something that doesn't require clothing.

Wilford considers this for a moment.

"That's fucked up," he decides.

She sighs at him.

"It's Milliways."

[cottoncandypink]

"And I've said before that this place is fucked up too."

Which it is. For a lot of reasons.

Which is exactly what she means. This is par for the course.

"Very much so."

[cottoncandypink]

"This is part of why I don't bring the kid here anymore," Wilford says. "He don't need none of this shit."

Also, a lot of people around here have decided it's open season on little kids, and Wilford doesn't have the patience.

"I don't think they're all that bad to children."

Not that she'd actually know, but she hasn't seen anything untoward.
