Sameth has taken over a table and covered it with the pieces of various kitchen gadgets. He never knew there could be so many kinds of wafflemakers or ways to make sandwiches.

At the moment, he has an all in one egg sandwich maker taken apart and he's trying to figure out the non-stick coating.

"Is it for work? I know with my various duties that keeps me on the move."

"A kind of work. Nobody's paying me for any of it, but it's a duty of sorts, at least."

"What is it? If you don't mind saying, my duties go from fixing things to trying to help with complicated situations but my sister's better at that part of things," Ellimere's a really good politician.

"It's complicated. I guess you could say that my team and I are problem-solvers of a kind? Or problem-solvers-slash-monster-fighters."

"That's not too complicated. What kinds of monsters do you fight?" That description fits everyone in Sameth's family.

"I'm simplifying it," Yamato says wryly. "Since otherwise it'd take a while to explain. As for the monsters we fight, they're the, er, data-based residents of another world."

"Data-based like computers? How do you fight them?"

His sense of that kind of technology is that its energy based.

"By hitting them really hard, usually. Er, we have monsters of our own who are partnered with us," Yamato says.

"That would be useful."

"It is. We definitely would've died years ago without them."

"How did you meet with your partners? Do those data monsters live in your world?"

"No, they live in the other world. We first met them when we were abducted from summer camp and dragged into that world."

"Their world abducted you?" That's awful and complicated.

"Yeah. Prophecy stuff," Yamato says. "We spent about nine months there, on that first trip."

"Prophecy, those always seem to cause trouble."

They're not as common in his world as others but he's heard some stories in Milliways.

"There's only one prophecy in my world -- apart from ones in myths and legends -- so I couldn't say how much trouble they generally cause."

"We don't really have any in the Old Kingdom but other worlds have them a lot and they always seem to cause complications."

"I haven't even read most of the prophecy in my world, just bits and pieces here and there."

"Is there a lot to read? I know in the Old Kingdom we have books of knowledge like the Book of Death but they're rare. And not everyone can actually read them,"

And the Book of Remembering, they don't have prophecies in them but he knows they're not the same for everyone.

"It covers the walls of a pretty labyrinthine temple, so yeah, a lot. And none of it is in order anyway, or at least not any order I can decipher, so that doesn't help."

"In a temple, has anyone copied it down?"

"Not in its entirety. Apparently in at least one other world it's in a book, though."

"Do multiple worlds connect to yours? There's only Ancelstierre and the Old Kingdom in mine and possibly Death but that's not the same."

"Yeah, there are eight worlds in total in my, er, world."

"Eight, how hard is it to go from one to another?"
