Now that Lan Zhan has gone home with A-Yuan, and the major funeral rite is over and done with, Abe no Seimei has time to provide gifts to his compatriots of the past few weeks.
To Inspector Zenigata he gives a hardcover book of the Lotus Sutra, full of gorgeous illustrations. It is the sort of book one could make into an heirloom. With it he includes a note: Zenigata-keibu, I think you will appreciate this as few others here would.
To Rae Seddon he gifts a cozy scarf knitted with a gradient yarn that fades from white at one end through pinks and reds and purples to deep violet at the other end. The note enclosed reads: Rae-san, I apologize for making you wear mourning again.This plum blossom scarf suits you far better.
The gift for Lupin is the hardest. What can you give the man who steals everything? Why, the sort of gift only a master diviner can give, of course! Seimei's gift package to Lupin contains a strange object and the brief note: Keep this with you. You will need it soon.
None of the notes are signed. Zenigata would by now recognize Seimei's handwriting, Sunshine would know exactly who wrote her note even without recognizing the handwriting, and Lupin is going to figure it out sooner or later.
