John sits at one of the tables, smoking a cigarette and drinking whiskey as he contemplates the Observation Window.
Come take his mind off the end of all living things. It strikes a little too close to home.

John shrugs. "Not especially, no. I've had to get creative to make ends meet.
"I've a new flat, though. Won it in a duel."
no subject
"A duel? Is the flat in the 1600s?"
no subject
no subject
"Ooh, that's new," Lucifer says, smiling, as he sits down.
"Thank you kindly. A large whiskey, please. No ice. Now, rapiers, pistols, or woo-woo?"
no subject
"A wizard duel, for lack of a better term. 'Woo-woo' is not a better term." He gives Lucifer a very are you serious kind of look.
no subject
"Woo-woo is a perfectly fine term. So - the kind where your turn into animals or the kind that looks like a movie with Nicolas Cage and a too small CGI budget?"
He is being all interested.
no subject
"The kind that looks like it's got too small a CGI budget."
no subject
"So you killed a guy with purple sparkles and took over his flat?"
It seems s little pointless to Lucifer though it should be noted that he'd never experienced not being able to get a place to stay.
no subject
"And the sparkles were green and gold."
no subject
"Luck of the Irish," Lucifer says, eyes sparkling. "And if he didn't die, wouldn't he need his flat, then?"
no subject
And if he's not, John will move on before he comes back.
"So, that's my wicked past. What are you up to lately?"
no subject
Finally they're getting to an interesting topic.
Him.
Lucifer smiles widely and announces,"I've gotten a new job. I've just started up as a private consultant for the LAPD. Mostly murder cases."
Well, a murder case, but who's counting?
no subject
"You're the ultimate rebel and you're working with police? You are an endless enigma, Luce."
no subject
"Yes, well, I know it seems off brand, but Detective Decker and I make a fabulous team."
Even she will see that eventually.
"She was in a softcore movie once. I recognized her almost straight away."
He seems - really pleased with this new development.

"It's not like that," Lucifer protests.
And it really isn't.
"It's strictly professional."
And he is okay with that. Totally. Doesn't bother him one bit.

Not that John is one to talk, but let's face it, he was never the type for retail.

"I opened Lux because a nightclub is perfect for my skillset," Lucifer protests.
"As - as it turns out - is crime solving."
So there.

"No," Lucifer says. "Of course not. I interrogate them."
What do you take him for, Constantine?
no subject
"I'd love to sit in on one of those sessions," John says. "Your technique must be fascinating."
no subject
Lucifer sits up a little straighter.
"Well, I do have an edge," he says, modestly. "On account of my, you know, talent."
no subject
"You sing to them?"
no subject
Lucifer gives him a look.
"I ask them what they truly desire. And they tell me."
