"As if I needed the reminder that my subsection of the Reclamation Service was built to fail," Ibani mutters as she walks in, staring at a datapad.

She looks up when she feels that she's in Milliways. "Thank the Force, I could use a drink."

"I'm glad you'll live. I'd offer to help, but I remember that your tenant doesn't like outside magic."

"A battle with those things from that world you couldn't stay in very long without going mad?"

"No, no, not them. Beings from another world than that, under the command of an old ally of ours," Yamato says, just a little wryly. "It was touch and go for a while, but we fought them off. They aren't likely to try again anytime soon."

"You have entirely too may enemies," Ibani replies. Pot, kettle. "A former ally now, I presume? What made them turn on you?"

"You're one to talk," Yamato says wryly. "And -- yeah, former ally. Maybe an ally again in future. I don't think he's entirely in his right mind."

He pauses for a moment, rubbing the back of his neck.

"His corrupted programming aside, though, he says I reneged on some promises. Ones I made -- I guess about twenty-five thousand years ago. Before I was me. I don't remember making them."

"Point," Ibani concedes.

"I don't think that ought to count as breaking a promise, in that case. It if it was before you were you, then YOU didn't make that promise."

"As far as he's concerned, being me is just a -- fleeting, temporary thing, a tiny portion of time where I'm slipping into a role that I'll eventually slip out of when I'm done," Yamato says, with a shrug. "And he doesn't see why that would have any bearing on promises I've already made."

"I suppose I can see that, sort of. Makes things a bit difficult for you though."

"If there's anything I can do to help..."

"We beat him back pretty soundly. He doesn't have a whole lot of moves to make anymore, so chances are he'll be quiet for a while," Yamato says. "I'd offer to help with your Reclamation Service, but I don't have much of a brain for bureaucracies."

"I wouldn't inflict that kind of thing on you anyway, would be cruel," Ibani replies. But she's grinning as she says it.

"I hope you get to enjoy the quiet for a bit."

"I've never been a fan of too much quiet. I get antsy," Yamato admits. "But a few weeks of quiet will be good for the others."
