OOM: The morning after this:

During his first morning as a free man, Bucky speaks with Steve, makes an important call, and does his best to express his gratitude to T'Challa before heading to the lab for a consultation. And then...

"Did you mean what you said last night? About wanting to find a place for a drink, or to go dancing."

Featuring NPC versions of: King T'Challa, Princess Shuri, Okoye, Natasha Romanoff, and Steve Rogers (written prior to Steve's return to the bar).

The first figure to step through the door and into the Bar proper is a familiar one – tall, a little scruffy, shaggy brown hair, neatly pinned sleeve where his left arm would be – though the lightness in his eyes and in the way he carries himself is something new.

So is the woman whose hand he holds as he guides her through the door. She's tall and slim, dressed casually in light pants and a white tank top, and the look on her face is one of such comical surprise it's nearly dismay.

"Holy shit," says Sharon Carter. "You were not kidding."

OOC: After months of OOMs leading up to this point, here we are as Bucky and Sharon enter the bar together! Two pups, two muns, two wildly different timezones. Ask for either one or both. He eyes Sharon sideways. "Oh, really?"

"Or a defender against them," John says and sips his whiskey. "Call me anytime, pet." He winks at her over his glass.

"Or that," Sharon agrees. She gives Bucky an arch look and grins at John as she slides the card into a pocket, then sips at her own drink.

"Do the cards help drum up business?"

Well, they’ve seen weirder things in their world, that’s for sure, whatever Sharon’s thinking. He imagines John meeting T’Challa and feels a brief, splitting headache.

“Given the sort of solitary thing, I’d have guessed word of mouth, if anything.”

"I'm rarely called upon by other mages," John says. "It's more often an ordinary person with a supernatural problem. The card's been passed along from person to person until it reached someone desperate enough to contact me."

"Well, if we run into any supernatural problems, I'm sure you'd be the first person we'd call," Sharon tells him.

"Unless there are mages hanging around in our world that we haven't run into yet."

Honestly, at this point? She wouldn't be surprised.

Would Wanda Maximoff count as a mage? He's honestly not certain, although he's pretty sure she's the closest to it that he's seen in their world.

"Although I think you'll understand when I say I hope we don't need to," Bucky says. "I'd rather catch up with you here like this instead."

"There might be," he says to Sharon. "No matter how buried it may be, there don't seem to be many worlds without a touch of magic.

"I completely understand," he says to Bucky, "and hope the same. I tend to clean up messes that clever people usually avoid making."

"So you're off the clock here?" she asks.

"Aside from the card tricks, that is."

“Supposedly there’s no business in the bar,” Bucky says. “Usually that means no violence, though.”

John nods. "No exorcisms," he says, "at least not yet. We'll see if someone is in need of having demons cast out or dragons hunted or who knows what else could happen in the future."

"Sounds like you get plenty of variety in your work," Sharon observes.

Considering the last time they talked about John's work it involved a discussion of tarot cards, Bucky just looks at him with eyebrows raised.

John looks at Bucky and shrugs. Well, it's true.

"I do. I collect magical knowledge like a magpie. You never know what's going to come in handy, at least for making a few quid if nothing else."

"Got a favorite?" Sharon asks, grinning.

Technique? Spell? She's not really sure of the proper terminology, but that hardly matters.

"Bet I can guess a thing or two that's not," he drawls. "But I'm curious about your favorite too."

"A favorite..." John muses.

He gives Sharon an arch look as he pushes back his cuffs again. A murmured spell, and --

A tiny flame, like a will o'the wisp, dances on the tips of his fingers.

"I like this one," he says as the flame hops from one finger to the next.

Her grin flashes in delighted surprise.

"I like that one, too."

Bucky laughs, a single quick, bright sound.

John beams, pleased, and lets the little flame dance a few steps more before he blows it out.

"That's the wee demonstrative version," he says, mostly to Sharon. "Its big brother comes in useful when I'm facing down a street gang, like."

"I bet."

She can think of more than one occasion where being able to create fire from nothing would have been very useful.

"The flamethrower version, that'd be?" Dryly said. "Yes, those are useful."

"No hardware to lug on my back, is all."

"I still can't believe you had a flamethrower in your arm before," she tells Bucky.

"But I can see how magic would be even more useful."

He shrugs. "It was less helpful than you might think."
