[And Delia is in the bar, feeling mildly bored, but bearably so. Outfit of the night is a black turtlenecked jumper with an ankle-length velvet skirt that looks like snake-skin...]
[well, she's always been fond of symbols, really.]
[over to her normal booth, she draws her legs up and curls into the corner, reading 'The Collected Works of Oscar Wilde']
[every so often, there can be heard a faint giggle from her booth.]

Hey sweetheart, you mind if I bug you?
*the small sad smile is getting les sad but still she hasn't managed a good smile unless provoked into it, for a while*
no subject
Penny, what's wrong?

*she frowns*

Your Ares?
no subject
Yeah, the problem with dating a war god is there are wars most of the time and sometimes he has to be there. So, I am alone here and miserable.
no subject
Oh, Penny...

*she is thrilled with the hug but pulls back quick because she shouldn't get comfortable, that would be dangerous*

There's a war back at my home, they forced men to go just because they needed more soldiers. It was not fair but it was war and war isn't fair.
*she shrugs*
I guess I'm just lonely.
no subject
I haven't seen anyone I know for ages.

*she wraps an arm around Delia's shoulders*

It's just, not even Alanna, and normally her and I just snip at each other. [she sighs] Alex has gone found himself a boyfriend, and I haven't seen Thom since forever as well.

I have friends here though probably wouldn't make it without them.
*she smiles at Delia*

"Would you...happen to be named Delia? I'm...a friend of Alex's."
no subject
[the slender girl looks up, and raises an eyebrow]
Yes, I am. [noting the pause, she closes the book and straightens a bit] Would you be Nick?
no subject
"Yes, I'm Nick. It's...it's nice to meet you. We were just talking about how I should the other day."
He holds out his hand.

no subject
"Certainly. I'm teaching Thom to paint, actually."
He grins, boyish and pleased as he returns her hand to her.
"And you? May I perhaps enquire as to...what was so funny?"
no subject
What? Oh, you heard me...I'm just reading some of Oscar Wilde's plays...and the comment about losing both parents through carelessness was amusing. [she smiles at him]
no subject
"He was something of a card, yes."
He gestures to the seat opposite her.
"May I?"
no subject
no subject
"I do. Thank you."
He settles down, placing his drink on the counter. It is red, too red for wine, and too thick as well. The coppery scent might give it away.
"May I be frank?"
no subject
[she knows that smell too well]
no subject
"Yes, so I've found at well, and I've had a very long life so...I suppose I'm due for it. But the point is this."
He peers at her, looking her straight in the eyes.
"I love Alex. That's the long...and the short of it. We had a rocky start, but at this point...I'd die for him. Kill for him."
He looks at her.
"And you are his friend. So...where does that put us?"
no subject
I do not know. I also love him...Nick. Not as you do, but once you've been practically living with someone for six years, through the things we have...
[she leans back in her seat, watching him as a hawk might a snake - trying to see if it is prey or predator]
I know you hurt him. I know you hurt him badly. Very well, I cannot pretend to have done less. He is, though, the one person that I know well who hasn't tried to use me. The one person I trust without thinking. The one person I love without any degree of pain.
I don't know, Nick, where does that put us?
