*He approaches the karaoke machine slowly. It lights up and looks inviting-- as inviting as a possibly-evil-because-of-its-pinkness karaoke machine can be.*

"I told you," James says smugly, and gives the machine a friendly pat. "It does hymns and the Beatles. Can't be anything wrong with that."

"James Stanton," James says, with a grin, and sticks out a friendly hand. "You?"

*He shakes.* Xander Harris.

So, where are you from? It's not every day that a guy comes across someone uninitiated in the ways of karaoke.

"I'm from England," James says cheerfully. He hasn't quite gotten into the habit of putting his date after his name, yet. "Small town that you've most likely never heard of. You're American, aren't you?"

Yep, that's me. I come from California. Home of the Beach Boys. And the beach.

James looks very faintly jealous, and masks it with, "Well. Our town has - um. A very good choir.

And Monty Python and the Holy Grail is playing there this week."

*Xander is impressed.*

That's awesome. Have you already seen it?

"I dragged my brother and his friend to see it this weekend," James says proudly. "His friend had never heard of Monty Python before - I mean, honestly, I know, Wales and all, but still."

*Xander remembers a scene and chuckles.* Hey, you know what my favorite part was? *bad British accent* "You've got two coconuts and you're bangin' 'em together!"

"That," James agrees eagerly, "and the bit with the Holy Hand Grenade, I nearly fell off my chair -"

*Xander nods emphatically.*

'What, behind the rabbit?"

"And the number that thou shalt countest to shall be three," James quotes. "And the singing! I'd . . . rather . . . just . . . siiiiiiiiiiing -"

Man, that movie was the best three days of my life. You know, if you add up the total hours I've spent watching it.

"You've seen it that often?" James looks terribly, terribly jealous. "It came to theaters in our town once before, but I had 'flu then and couldn't go - I only got to see it twice this weekend."

"No, it's not. It's hardly even been out yet."

I meant in my time-- 2003. It's been out for a while. Sadly, this means that not everyone has watched it.

James sighs. "This whole different times things keeps throwing me. I'm from 1977, I probably should say."

*Xander nods.* Yeah, I figured it was sometime around then. This place brings waaaay too many different dimensions together.

"You needn't tell me," James agrees. "But my little brother will keep coming here, and my barn door keeps opening on the place regardless. It's rather unnerving, to think you're going to feed chickens and end up talking to a king or something like that."

"Oh, you're stuck?" James grins ruefully. "I've heard about that sort of thing - this chap Garion, he was the king fellow, he couldn't see the door." He punches Xander on the shoulder, in a friendly fashion. "Well, there are worse places to be stuck and all."
