Bartending!

Claire steps behind the bar, Seth sleeping in a baby sling around her neck. She wipes down the bar's surface and straightens the extra glasses, smiling at Charlie playing guitar in the corner.



"What can I get you?"

"Esk," she smiles. Her eyes are tired but she is genuinely glad to see her friend. "How are you today?"

"I'm good," Eska replies. "Been busy, but nothing particularly interesting: working on a particularly complex spell for someone. How are you?"

She smiles a small smile and says quietly, "I'm doing okay. I'm sure you've heard about last weekend?"

She nods, "Liam told me."

Claire nods as well, looking down at the bar before offering a small smile to Esk. "I don't know why all these bad things keep happening, Eska."

"Because your boy's special," Esk replies, giving a smile just as small. "But he's OK now. He really is safe here, you know."

She nods. There was a time when she believed that implicitly but now she knows nothing's ever certain, not even her child's safety. Instead of replying, she turns her body so that Seth's small face is visible.

"What do you think, Eska? You think he's growing up good?"

Esk stands on the footbar on her stool so she can lean over and brush Seth's sleeping face gently.

"For four weeks? I think he's growing up fine," she says, smiling much more strongly now.

Seth sighs contendtedly at Esk's touch.

"I agree." Claire beams. "I think he's very handsome. But then, I'm pretty biased, I have to admit."

"I," says Esk authoritively, "have seen some ugly babies. And Seth here is most definitely not one of them."

Claire nods very seriously. "I believe you."

And then she laughs. "Can I get you anything, Eska?"

Eska grins.

"Do you know, in all the time I've been here, I've only ever had drinks from my own world. Can you recommend something from your own?"

"Certainly." She smiles. "Hmm, do you have the same sorts of fruit in your world? Do you like sweet or tangy or salty?"

Esk blinks. She hadn't been aware sweet or tangy or salty was really an option.

"Uh... tangy?" she suggests, thinking of Scumble, "And I'm fairly sure we have the same fruits." Again thinking of Scumble, which is made from apples. Well, mostly apples.

"I think I know just the thing." She sets to work preparing a lime green drink in a martini glass. After embellishing it with a cherry she sets it in front of Esk proudly.

"It's called an appletini. They're very popular in my world right now."

"It's green." Esk says, a little unneccesarily.

Claire smiles. "Looks pretty with the red cherry doesn't it?"

She nods at the drink. "It's just the apple flavoring. It's safe. I promise."

"Apple drinks are yellow," Eska points out, but nevertheless takes a cautious sip.

"Wow, it's sweeter than I would expect," she says, not negatively.

"If you don't like it, I'll be happy to get you a different one." She grins. "And don't forget, it's all on me."

"Oh, I haven't forgotten," Esk grins. "But I'll finish this one. It's actually quite tasty. Just not something I'd associate with alcohol."

Claire laughs. "It's the cool girly drink. Stylish and tasty at the same time."

"Cool girly drink, right," Esk replies, also laughing. "I'll bear it in mind... an Appletini, you said?"

She nods. "And I know lots of other weirdly colored drinks, too. You can try a different one each week if you'd like."

"That sounds like a plan," Esk smirks. "I might just take you up on that."

"It's a deal then. We'll work our way up to shots." She smirks mischievously.
