Bulding Site II.

Asar-Suti is in the half-finished staff quarters again.

He's been conjuring things for quite a while now: wallpaper, paint, glue, doorknobs, tiles, washbasins, rolled-up carpeting, DIY floowboards, what have you, he's busy making it.

And a few cardboard packages of purportedly easy-to-build kitchen cabinets, for those of the staff who get their own small kitchens in their quarters.

He's got a tan bathtub and nice, fiddly brown-and-green mosaic tiling already secreted away, set aside for Gil's future bathroom.

The place is busy; people are bustling about, demanding more of this or that, asking each other how something works, and lending each other hands, arms and other body parts for the more arduous tasks.

The goal of finishing this weekend looks quite realistic.

[[OOC: This is the second of the building site posts that I'd suggested; if your character volunteered to help or just likes to lend a hand, come on in - fly-by posts to establish your pup was there, long chats and brief interludes all equally welcome!]]

The wry smile is back. "Well, as I said, I had time to adjust to the idea of you before meeting any of you, but...if I hadn't I'd probably have been a bit shaken, too."

Okay, point. Still, I told Mikey to keep his distance. Wasn't sure, an' you can never tell with some people. You know?

Spike's been laying down floorboards; he doesn't have the patience for tile or wallpaper or any of that finish work. As long as he keeps reminding himself he's doing it for Beth, the work doesn't bother him at all.

Taking a break, he sits back, stretches, and grabs a glass of ice water. After this, a hot shower will be a good idea.

Cuthbert nods understandingly. "Roland's not always the best when it comes to reacting to surprises."

Trust me, I know the type.

*He doesn't say he is type, mostly because it goes without saying.*

So even if he's got an itchy trigger finger, we should be okay, right?

"Grub's up!" Gil yells entering the staff quarters with a HUGE tray covered with food suitable for hard working builders and decorators.

Painting walls and hanging paper is something he feels he could do but they are having such fun he doesn't want to interfere.

There seems to be a lot of paste about though.

"Just taking a break. I'm good." He nods to the mostly-finished floor in this room. "It'll be ready for carpet or whatever soon."

He stretches his neck from side to side until it pops; he reaches around and rubs the back of his neck.

"Name's Spike and before you ask, Mars, 2071."

*That very thought will give Raph nightmares for weeks to come.*

No. No they can't.

*It comes out sounding more like, No. I won't allow it.*

Gil smiles at him. "Of course there are, Sooty," Gil says, then remembers and tries out the special greeting Look he learned from that nice new person he met last night.

Cuthbert smirks. "I think I've beaten the 'no violence' thing into my had long enough for it to be pretty well ingrained, yes." He's that type too, if to a lesser extent than Roland.

"Also, I've met Mike, and he seems alright."

The ice water tastes great. One of life's little pleasures. "Yeah, in my world, Mars was colonized and most people moved there after a big chunk of Earth was wiped out. See, there's this technology: space travel through a series of gates between planets or whatever that allow for hyper-speed travel, but the one between Earth and its moon exploded. So most people moved to Mars Colony at first, then established colonies on other planets. From Venus to Neptune, planets and moons, asteroids. Whatever's inhabitable."

He sets the water down, then stands again. "Back to it, huh. Looks like we might even get it done. Want to hand me that box of nails over there?"

You mean you weren't invited? Man, this is kinda awkward...Just show up. Mike'll understand. He just ain't run into you yet. Heh, he knows if he comes back here we'll put him to work.

*Raph snerk*

Clearly you ain't lived with him. Though, from what Roland says, it's a lot like livin' with Eddie, if that helps.

"Am I not supposed to?" Gil says, brightly. "I thought it was a new way of saying hello. There was this chap in the Bar last night who kept doing it until I did it as well. It somekind of Earth greeting I think so I thought I'd practice for the next time we go there."

"Hey, Mars isn't that bad. I was born there and they say it's a great place if you've got a lot of money. Personally... I don't." He pops a few of the nails in his mouth and starts nailing down more floorboard. "S' frs I cn tll..." Spike spits out the nails. "So far as I can tell, only a couple people here are from my reality, and they all survived Earth."

Just like Ed. Faye -- well, her story's different. And no one's business.
