(no subject)

From the back door storms the Valkyrie. Its been wet and cold and rainy and overall miserable outside- all the better for trying to work off a temper. And given Ace's good advice, she's totally forgotten she's wearing the space agey red and black armor.

What? It fits well and she can move around easily. You're not going to make her self-conscious of it again, are you?

Mwaha.

He nods, understandingly.

Quietly, "If you'd speak, I'd hear." Then, with a smile, "Or you could tell me of this outside, and we'll speak no more of troubles, if you'd rather."

He smiles. "Say on, then. I've not seen it."

"Wide-Earth now, then." It was summer when he died, suffocatingly hot in the sun and the rock caves. Odd, to be suddenly in early spring.

"...Demon rabbits?"

[identity profile] honest-johns.livejournal.com 2005-03-19 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
They sound less like demons than like a vicious strain of muties to him, but he nods.

"Thankee for the warning."

Then he frowns, a bit. "Why would you go hunting here, with the bar so well-supplied? Or does it need to be restocked, now and then?"

He nods in comprehension.

He also doesn't think much of hunting for fun or sport, though certainly he knows of those who do it. They were taught not to waste either ammunition or meat, by Cort and Vannay both, and he went through lean times enough in later days to have learned the lesson well.

"A car?"

Tonight is, it seems, Alain's night to get educated about transportation devices. Driving to him means a horse and cart, and he's trying to figure out what that means in this context.

The Great Old Ones had machines of many sorts. Maybe even ones like that. He'd never thought to see one in full working order, though. He blinks.

"And there is one of those machines outside?"

[identity profile] honest-johns.livejournal.com 2005-03-19 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Let us all be glad that Alain has not yet heard the story of the later ka-tet's encounter with Blaine, the sentient and homicidally insane monorail.

Lacking that precedent, he just blinks. A lot. "...All right, then."

[identity profile] honest-johns.livejournal.com 2005-03-19 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
More canon for this! None of which Alain knows, because he died long before the others encountered the robots and cyborgs and lunatic trains. Alas.

He nods, still looking somewhat confused by the whole idea.

[identity profile] honest-johns.livejournal.com 2005-03-19 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Only at Milliways would that be the easy and obvious conclusion.

He nods. "In this place, aye." He's still boggling somewhat.

[identity profile] honest-johns.livejournal.com 2005-03-19 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
He knows exactly what she's doing. His expression is a mixture of further boggling, and a friendly glare.

...A giant lion, and now a world serpent. Lovely.

He abandons the half-hearted scowl to stare at her. "A great snake? A Guardian?"
