Somehow, Cassandra found herself at Milliways once again. Black top, a bit of midriff, and black sweatpants. It was obvious that she had not been on duty for those who knew what business she was in.

And, once again, Cassandra looked lost.

Now Cassandra definitely frowned at that. It was a morbid thought, and not even most criminals deserved someone to think that about them.

"That's...not true. Cruel thing to say."

Asmodean was not most criminals. In fact, they would have to invent punishments suitable to his crimes.

"Oh, but it is. You see, though I am reformed now, I had an illustrious past."

"...Illustrious past?" Cassandra stumbled over that first word, since she wasn't as fluent as she wanted to be yet, but she knew what it meant. "What...did you do?" And did she want to know?

Asmodean glanced away.

"In the past, I was one of the Forsaken, the highest servants of the Dark One. It suffices to say I was considered, and probably rightly so, the worst kind of evil."

This man was...evil? He certainly didn't seem like it. He played nice music, even if it was of the sad kind.

"In...past?" She hadn't missed that part. If it was the past...well, it couldn't be changed, but you could move past it. "What about now?"

This man was, at one point, grade-A, high caliber evil.

"I no longer serve the Shadow."

And this seemingly innocent girl used to be a lethal weapon being trained to become one of the best assassins in her world.

"So...no more evil?" She asked insistently. If you were talking about past demons, she had her own share of them.

Asmodean shrugged. He had over three hundred years of unmitigated tragedy to contend with, so there was certainly enough to go around.

"I no longer serve a dark power, or strive for the harm of others."

"Good," Cassandra said with a nod. The word or the nod wasn't something of judgement or approval. It was just...something to show that she knew what he said.

"That what matter. Not past."

Asmodean paused.

"When you have lived as long as I have the past becomes rather important."

"But past...not everything. Can't change the past. Can only change future."

Cassandra didn't like looking back on her past, even though she often did and dreamt about it. Still, in a way, it was what drove her to do what she did, because she knew she couldn't change what she had done but knew better now.

Asmodean paused.

"I suppose.

He considered her for a second.

"I take it that you have a somewhat tragic past as well?"

Tragic...wasn't quite the word she'd use for it. She didn't think she was a victim or anything. No. She hadn't known better at the time, yes, but she was still thankful for the training Cain had given her during those days. It was how she could be such an efficent fighter.

"Not...tragic," Cassandra said. "But not...normal."

Asmodean nodded.

"An abnormal background, eh? I suppose I fall into that category as well."

"Normal...overrated anyway, right?"

Did Cassandra just crack a joke? Yes, indeed she had.

Asmodean gave a smirk.

"Of course, nobody recalls normal people anyway."

Not that he would be remembered for anything good, but he would be remembered.

Well, that wasn't entirely true. Normal people were remembered in their own way. Just more...privately.

"Normal, abnormal...all same in end. Live life." Well, it wasn't a lie.

Asmodean thought about it.

"I suppose, but there are a lot of people who do not live life. Oh, they breathe and do all the things that the living do but they do notlive."

Cassandra wasn't sure she knew the difference. Living...wasn't it breathing and doing things? She blinked, and her expression betrayed the fact that she was confused.

She was a protector. It didn't matter what those she protected did. She never thought about how they lived or anything like that.

Asmodean gave a casual smile.

"To truly live is... how should I say this?"

He paused.

"It is to find why you want to continue breathing, and then do whatever that might be."

That...was complicated. Especially since it was in words, and Cassandra was still grasping the concept of words. It seemed to make things much more complicated than it should be.

"Like...your music?" And her identity as Batgirl?

He gave a charming smile. She may speak simplistically be she understands.

"Yes, music is my one consuming passion."

Okay. In that case, Cassandra thought that she understood the concept, at least a little bit. She lived to be Batgirl and save and protect people. Not only because she felt guilty for what she had done in the past, but because she wanted to.

"I...think I get it."

Asmodean gives a smile. A different one than the one he had given previously.

"That is quite good."
