"No Claire today? No offense, but she's a good deal cuter than you."

Oh, she'll be in later. I thought I'd step in for the early afternoon for once.

And watch it. It doesn't do to offend the guy who supplies the booze.

"Ah. My apologies." He grins, but still takes the idea into account, given how tmepers are likely to be till the battle starts.

"Can I get a club soda with lime?

"Tell me - would you be okay if I tried to talk to some of those doctors myself and got the ball rolling on making a field hospital? I feel like I need to be useful, and this seems like something I can do wo you don't have to."

Sure.

*He slides the glass over.*

Yeah, please do. I've got too much on my plate as it is. I'd appreciate it.

"Thanks. For the drink and the permission.

"And let's hope all we need it for is the little things."

No shit.

Tim and Ace told me they're getting married.

"Tim and Ace?" Barry smiles.

"Wow. Haven't seen either in a couple days. That's really good. We need some good news about now.

"Though it doesn't surprise me. Sometimes times like this make you realize what you have. I think that might even be happening to me."

*A grin*

Really? Anyone I know?

"You met Sara Sidle? That's who I'm talking about.

"We met maybe a month ago, and it's been a bit of a surprise. I was married when I died, you see, and I thought that I'd just bide my time here alone. But we just hit it off, and we agreed to just take our time and see where it went. And it's going to a very pleasant place.

"And now she's joining Tim's posse, and I'm worried, and I'm beginning to realize that she means a lot to me."

*He squints*

Name's familiar. Not sure if I can remember a face to go with it.

*At the next, he smiles ruefully*

Well, believe me when I say I know how you feel.

"Brunette, mid-30s, slim, very pretty, tends to dress in lots of casual clothes." He smiles proudly, happily.

"Is Nymphodora joining the posse?"

No. She gets into enough dangerous situations in her everyday work. Plus, she's got very little time for much outside work lately.

"Ah. Sara did too, before we met. She was with the Las Vegas police, in forensics, like U was. Sounds like we're involved with very similar women."

*A smile*

Nymphadora's in magical law enforcement, so yeah.

"Right. I remember that. Once this is over and things are back to whatever passes for normal here, I need to find her and compare notes.

"And then if we throw in Sara and Agent Starling, and we'll have a cop convention. You met Clarice Starling yet?"

No, I haven't had the pleasure.

"She's new here, about six weeks from graduating from the FBI Academy. Very likeable, and with training in forensics as well.

"She apparently had something to do with arresting Hannibal Lecter. She started telling me about it but we go interrupted."

...Huh. That reminds me. I need an update from Bigby on Lecter.

*If he's at all worried about the presence of an FBI agent in the bar, he doesn't show it.*

"Is he bad news? I thought he was just a cook or something, and then Clarice tells me he's under arrest."

He tried to assault one of the Security officers... and did you say he was hired as a cook?

"I could swear I saw his name on a 'tonight's specials' list. But I might be mistaken. I rarely take my meals when the cooks are on duty. But that is what Clarice said." Barry is surprised that Bernard doens't know this, but wisely holds his tongue.

...Huh.

*Bernard looks distinctly ill.*

I might be wrong, but I believe Bigby told me the guy's a cannibal.

Barry looks just as ill for a moment.

"Dear lord." The queasy sensation passes fast but Barry is stunned. "Then I hope and pray I am completely wrong."

...I'm gonna string Gil up by his toes.

Barry sees the anger flash in Bernard's eyes. He figures this is a good time to be going.

"Well, I hope there's a good explanation for it. In the meantime, I think I'll look for doctors. Take it easy."
