Kitty looks tired when she enters the bar, but, then, she's been up for probably 48 hours now.

So she thinks she's allowed to not look her best. Doesn't really care, either, though, as she gets a bottle of vodka and begins to work through it at a booth.

Anakin sees this. Anakin is worried about this. Kitty should not be drinking that much, especially when she looks that bad.

"Kitten? What's wrong?" He slides into the booth next to her and starts trying to disentangle her from the vodka.

Kitty is not planning on letting go of the vodka any time soon.

"I," she says, and it's a very calm and entirely too lucid sort of drunkeness, really, "am the worst teacher ever."

He raises a skeptical eyebrow. "Really? Which one of your students went evil, killed all of their comrades, and helped a madman rule the world for twenty years this week?"

"The one who died this morning," she snaps.

There's a long drink after that.

He puts his arms around her and works harder on taking the vodka away from her. "Oh, Kitten. I'm sorry."

"Don't touch me. And don't call me that." Nope, not letting go. In fact, she phases away. Ha. Let them try and take the bottle now. "You can sit and join me, but that's it."

He sits in silence for a moment. "Will it help to talk about it?"

[prydeful]

"No. Probably not. Talking is painful, really, because that means that it happened. Whereas brooding, on the other hand, is also painful, but there's a level where you can almost pretend it's all in your head."

He gives her a Look. "Kitty. That won't help. Trust me."

You know, not that he doesn't brood a lot himself, but that's all guilt! Really.

Edmund sees Kitty.

Edmund starts to come over.

Edmund stops, and studies Kitty for a moment.

And then Edmund goes to the bar, gets a pot of coffee, a pot of tea, two cups and a glass, and puts them all on a small tray courtesy Bar, and brings it over, setting it gently on the table before smiling a little at Kitty.

"Hullo. Would you like company, or should I just leave the coffee?"

Kitty eyes Edmund before pouring a bit of vodka into one cup, following it with coffee--it's a compromise of sorts--and gesturing at the seat. "I'm horrible company right now, but it's up to you."

He sits down next to her, pouring himself tea.

And taking the bottle of vodka from her long enough to pour himself a glass as well. (And if she doesn't let go... well, his hand is fairly warm, for all of that.)

"You kept me company when I was quite horrible. I'm sure I owe you one, at the very least, for that, even if I didn't want to keep you company regardless."

Noncommital noise at that. "I may yell at some point," she warns.

"I'm surprised I didn't, the other night."

He smiles, a little.

"So... since you got me to tell you, what do I need to do to get you to tell me?"

[prydeful]

"Possibly give me something much stronger than this," Kitty grumbles, eyeing the coffee, before, "A student of mine died this morning."

He wraps an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close and pressing a kiss to her temple.

"Oh, Kitty... I'm so very sorry to hear that."

Quiet, for a moment, as he pulls the glass of vodka over.

Alcohol won't help the problem, in the long run, but perhaps it will at least help dim the pain of a death for the evening, until time puts distance there instead.

And even as the thought runs through his head, he can't help but almost laugh at himself for the hypocracy.

"What happened?"

"He couldn't stay solid." Absently phases her hand in and out of the table. "More or less the same power as I have. But he couldn't control it, and just turned more and more intangible, and then he wasn't there anymore. Just gone."

At some point in the evening, Jaina wanders over. "Are you okay, Kitty?"

She considers this question. It's a sensible enough question, after all. "Mmm. Not so much. No, not really."

Jaina sits down, hoping that she won't mind the compay. "What happened?"

[prydeful]

"One of my students died. Again." Thoughtfully, "I don't have a very good track record, and I've only been doing this for a few months."

"You can't blame yourself." She grins sympathetically, knowing full well what that feels like. "It's not in your control."

[prydeful]

"Oh, no, see, I can. I think I'm doing very well on just that, actually." Small shrug. "It probably wasn't. Doesn't make it better. I was the one who was supposed to help him."

"And I was the one who was supposed to keep an eye on my wingmate's tail," Jaina counters. A small pause. "Would it help to talk about it? Figure out where you went wrong so the mistake's not made again?"

She snorts. "Not really. I mean, it might, but I did after the last time it happened." She studies her glass. "Everyone says it wasn't my fault. But it was more mine than anyone else's, which is something."
