Seth is in his carrier, making "brrrt! brrrt!" noises. The carrier is on a table and Charlie is at the table, eating lunch and making "brrt! brrt!" noises right back.

[summary: Ron is powerless against the Seth-cute. Elaine learns about the Ramones. Joshua is also cute and Richard is a proud daddy. Charlie's worried about Seth's magic but Tom is reassuring. Asar-Suti sympathizes about Bartleby. Danny drops by briefly, for Seth is cute.]

"He's beautiful," Charlie says softly, and takes Seth out of his carrier so he can see the brand-new baby.

Seth continues boggling. What!? Another baby? Who authorized this? He turns his head into Charlie's neck.

"So the adoption came through, did it?"

"Thank you, I have to agree."

He brushes back the wispy red hair and turns him so that Charlie can see his face. Joshua cracks one eye open. Oh, good, another mortal to cater to my whims. That will do nicely.

"Loki came through. He saw that we weren't getting anywhere with the lawyers and agencies, so he gave us Joshua. Said he was a late wedding present."

Richard's still beaming.

"Loki . . ?"

He decides it would be better for his sanity not to ask, and just touches Joshua's cheek.

"Norse God Loki, not Loki the Angel. He brought Joshua to us on the twenty-fourth. We've over-joyed."

Joshua nuzzles into Charlie's hand and tries to nurse his finger. Richard reaches over to pat Seth.

"He's getting so big."

"I figured. Babies really aren't Loki-the-Angel's cuppa, as far as I can tell."

He hefts Seth. "Yup. Nice and chubby baby." He grins and sings, "'She's like a baby, I'm like a cat, when we get happy we both get fat,'" and blows a zerbert on Seth's neck.

The baby squeals with laughter.

Richard laughs and Joshua blows a bubble.

"Want to trade for a bit?"

He holds Joshua out.

"Sure!" He takes tiny Joshua and hands over Seth. Seth does not look pleased about this development at all. I'm the baby!

Richard coos and babbles at Seth.

"Who's a sweet baby boy, then?"

He presses tiny kisses to his cheeks and hugs him gently.

"Missed having you around, little man."

Charlie smiles as he watches them, and then gently kisses Joshua's forehead. "Welcome to the madness, little one."

Joshua blinks at Charlie a few times then quests for his thumb. He finds it and gets down to some serious thumb sucking. Triumph!

"I never thought this would happen. I'm still sort of in shock."

"Loki's a decent bloke. Er. God."

He nods.

"Loki's wonderful."

He shifts Seth up onto his shoulder.

"How have you been, mate?"

Charlie makes a "so-so" gesture. "Been a rough week, really, with Joe and Tim dying--but Bartleby's better and I'm doing okay. So. I dunno. It averages out."

He nods.

"Seems that's how it is a lot of the time at this place."

"Yeah. Does." He grins at Richard. "But I'm betting you two are over the moon right now."

He grins like a sap.

"Yeah, we really are."

"He's beautiful. And so calm, I love that. See, Seth?" he says softly. "This is Joshua. Maybe you two will play together when you're both bigger."

Seth's face says he is not at all in favor of this proposal. Or that he's got gas.

Richard bounces him a little and pats his back.

"You'll like having a friend, won't you, little man?"

Joshua burbles in agreement. Or maybe he wants a finger to suck.

Charlie chuckles and offers his littlest finger. He's getting pretty fluent in Baby. "This place is going to be crawling with kids before long, I suspect. See what you started?" he says to Seth severely, who just blinks at him.

Seth is smug. They know perfection when they see it, Da!

Richard kisses on the forehead and bounces him one more time, and finally gets him to burp.

"It'll be fun. But we may need to start a daycare."

"Here," Charlie says and hands him a rag for any spitup Seth may have graced him with. "I think there's someone in the House of Arch who's good with kids--Tom offered to ask her to look after Seth for Claire when it's needed. And we'll want teachers, eventually. Some kind of school."

Richard takes it and cleans them both up.

"Thanks, mate. I'll ask Tom abut the babysitter, though between Amadeo and Loki and Yamino, I may never need one. Hopefully you'll be rescued from your island by the time school starts for Seth."

"I think," Charlie says slowly, "that Claire intends to stay here, no matter what happens on the island."

He raises an eyebrow.

"She wants to live in the bar forever?"

Charlie nods. "Yup. Because it's safe. Safer."
