Seth is in his carrier, making "brrrt! brrrt!" noises. The carrier is on a table and Charlie is at the table, eating lunch and making "brrt! brrt!" noises right back.

[summary: Ron is powerless against the Seth-cute. Elaine learns about the Ramones. Joshua is also cute and Richard is a proud daddy. Charlie's worried about Seth's magic but Tom is reassuring. Asar-Suti sympathizes about Bartleby. Danny drops by briefly, for Seth is cute.]

"I'm a musician. Wrote a song that was very popular for a while."

"Ah. I always did like music. We had many bards come to stay the winters with us, when I was a girl."

"What do you play?"

"Well, I could always sing, carry a tune...and recently, I have begun teaching myself the harp. I am not so good at it yet."

"Singing's a good start. I'm not a great singer myself but I like doing it anyway. And no complaints yet, except the one bloke who didn't like the Ramones."

"The Ramones. I am afraid I do not know them, but I have heard some more modern music. The bar gave me some sort of musical listening thing so that I could hear some."

"They're a musical group from my time. Their music is a bit loud and simple, but it's fun to play.

"What kind of musical listening thing did she give you?"

"It's like a little box with these things you put in your ears to listen...and it plays all sorts of music."

"Do you have to put disks in it, or casettes, or is the music in the player already?"

"Um. In the player already. Terribly interesting contraption."

"Oh . . . you've got an iPod." He finshes around in the babybag and pulls out his own. "I was given this for Christmas.

"Want to hear some of the Ramones?"

She smiles. "Yes, I should like that."

He dials up "I wanna be sedated" and turns the volume down drastically, then gives her the iPod and earphones.

Elaine is so glad Charlie turned that down...

She listens, her face betraying confusion and curiosity. She wonders if they are quite sane.

She doesn't quite know what to think when she gives Charlie his iPod back. "They are certainly...enthusiastic, I suppose... And it's certainly something I've never heard before..." She laughs.

"They were pioneers of a new sound in their time," Charlie says as he puts the iPod away. "It's not for everybody, that's for certain.

"Music's a lot more rough in my time than yours. More, h'rm. Less cerebral? Though I do like folk music, you might find that more to your taste." He takes the iPod out again and dials up another song. "This bloke's called Dougie MacLean. Just him and his guitar--a style I like very much."

Elaine listens. And smiles. "This is more like what I am used to, certainly. Folk music, they call it?"

"Yeah. 'Cause it's a lot like older forms of music, see."

Elaine nods. "Though I do like a group called 'The Beatles'..."

"Oh, yes," he says eagerly, "they're the best. I can listen to them for days."

"And they did so many songs and so much music...I rather liked 'Elanor Rigby', though it's a very sad song..."

"It is. But it's so nice to play--and sing, really. My favorite's one called 'Strawberry Fields Forever', have you heard that one?"

"Yes. That one sounded so nice...rather hard to understand, for me, but I liked it."

"Yeah, you kind of have to know a bit about the band to understand the songs. Strawberry Fields was a park where the songwriter grew up. It's about a child, you know, going back to the places you loved as a child."

Elaine smiles. "That sounds lovely. I think I'll appreciate the song even more now."

"Glad to be of service." He grins widely.
