No one can resist the Seth-cute

Seth is in his carrier, making "brrrt! brrrt!" noises. The carrier is on a table and Charlie is at the table, eating lunch and making "brrt! brrt!" noises right back.

[summary: Ron is powerless against the Seth-cute. Elaine learns about the Ramones. Joshua is also cute and Richard is a proud daddy. Charlie's worried about Seth's magic but Tom is reassuring. Asar-Suti sympathizes about Bartleby. Danny drops by briefly, for Seth is cute.]

"Rock'n'roll, huh? Awesome. You in a band?"

"Yeah--we're called Driveshaft. We were a one-hit wonder about five years ago." He says this without bitterness--enough time has passed for him to make peace with it.

"Yeah," he says tactlessly, "sorry, I've never heard of you. I'm not too hot with the top forty - no time. Still, it's cool that you're in, you know, a real band."

He finds himself becoming oddly enthused and starstruck, despite his thirty years of age and the fact that he has no idea who Driveshaft actually are.

"It's okay, a lot of people here haven't," Charlie says cheerfully. "I figure they're just from alternative Earths--the more alternative they are to my own, the less likely it is the band existed for them.

"Not that many people from my own world know who we are either. Except when VH-1 does their 'most annoying one-hit wonder' countdowns. I keep hoping we'll get a Behind The Music, now that I'm supposed to be dead."

"Heh, yeah, you never know. I'll keep watching TV, tape it for you if it happens."

He ignores the concept of alternative earths; it still makes his head spin a little.

"So what's the rock'n'roll lifestyle like?"

"A lot less fun than you'd think."

"Well, now all my illusions are shattered. Guess I'm going to have to give up the dream of learning to play guitar."

"You know what, I don't think that's a good idea. I've never been all that musical. I don't want to scar people like you for life, or anything. What do you play?"

"Anything I can get my hands on, just about. Guitar, piano, drums, bass guitar, percussion, woodwinds . . . I've tried everything at least once."
