(no subject)

Hagrid is in the gardens, wand in hand, coaxing his sprouting pumpkin seedlings to grow into mature plants, one by one.

He saw a sign before coming out about circuses, and wonders what it is. Maybe he'll stick around to find out...

Come and keep him company while he works.

Odd, indeed. "California, 2008," he says. He already knows where Hagrid's from, but he figures it would probably be best just not to mention the books.

"Yeah, it's a pretty big place." He shrugs. "I work for the government. The Counter-Terrorist Unit. We just gather intelligence on possible attacks on the country and try to stop them from happening."

The name sounds familiar. "I haven't really met her," he says, "but she does work for CTU. She's my superior." He tries not to sound too contemptuous of the suits, of which he's heard Driscoll is a particularly suity one.

"So," he says, trying to sound as if he doesn't know already, "where do you work?"

"Sounds cool," says Chase. He has to admit, he sometimes gets a little envious of the people in the Bar who can do magic. "What kind of magical creatures are we talking about? Unicorns and stuff?"

Well, he hasn't read the books very closely. And only up through PoA.

Well, Chase's idea of interesting tends to end up involving helicopter crashes and big giant explosions, so maybe they're even.

"Well," he reasons, "dragons...are probably pretty dangerous. Cool, but dangerous."

He thinks he remember what a hippogriff is. "What's a thestral?"

"Wow. That's impressive." It occurs to Chase that he doesn't really know anyone who hasn't seen a death first hand. "And a hippogriff...they're those half-horse, half-bird things?"

Never having seen a hippogriff, Chase just nods. "I don't have any right now," he says. "I don't like cats and I'm allergic to dogs. I had a pet rat for a little while when I was a kid."

He remembers the rat fondly. He wouldn't mind having another one. "No magical pets, though," he says, remembering who he's talking to.

"I've always wished I wasn't allergic to dogs. I mean, I like them. I just can't breathe around them."

Chase vaguely remembers something bad in the third book having to do with rats, and wonders if he shouldn't have mentioned them. "What's your boar hound's name?"
