*Padfoot walks through Milliways, hauling a cartload of two-by-four planking, plaster buckets, rolls of insulation, and various tools*

*After a moment, Sirius wanders out into the bar and scrawls the following on the chalkboard:*

Attn.

We are currently occupied with a small construction project. If you require services the bar is unable to provide by itself, Sirius can be located through the kitchen and out the back door.

If any of you are any good at carpentry charms, you're welcome to lend a hand for bar credit.

What's all the banging? And what the hell is a carpentry charm?

YO! Sirius! Does knowing how to use a hammer count as a carpentry charm?

*pauses; releases screwdriver, which continues to run in his absence, and turns around*

Well, that depends. Do you know how to use it to purpose, or are you more the hold-the-nail-and-pound type?

You can mix plaster if you want. Or there's drywalling...

Don't carve the struts, we'll only cover them up again, but if you'd like to do something on the doorway lintel it'll get you a month's free drinks.

Nope! *cheerful* If it was safe it wouldn't be *grunts as he thumps a strut into place* real carpentry...

Oh this is so dangerous. *Grins hugely* Wingardium Leviosa! *charms shoes to float; drifts gently upwards and begins putting roofing beams up*

If that wasn't so cool, I'd seriously consider it cheating.

"I know the bar wasn't in this state when I went to sleep," Peter mutters as he wanders in from his room. "What in the name of Merlin's beard caused this?"

The chalkboard catches his eye.

Carpentry charms. Well, he does know a few, thanks to some of James' parties at Hogwarts and some more recent parties-turned-riot by some of the more elite Death Eaters. Can't ask purebloods to clean up after themselves, oh no. Of course not.

On the other hand, asking to help means talking to Sirius. And he's afraid of Sirius. To be specific, he's afraid of Padfoot, who just might bite his head off. Literally. And with good reason.

But he promised Raph and Dora--no, she's Tonks now--that he'd try to change. To help.

Nothing for it, then.

He squares his shoulders and calls out, hoping that Sirius will hear, and praying to any deity that might be listening that his former friend won't kill him.

"Er--I do know a few carpentry charms. May I help?"

Do you need any more help? I'd be glad to lend my hands.

*glances down*

I think you've spent enough time helping, Pettigrew. Last time you helped me, you helped me right into Azka --

*glances back at roofing beams*

Ask the turtle if he needs your help drywalling. It's extremely unlikely you're going to kill anyone drywalling.

Sure -- you can hang insulation, if you like, or plaster the insides where it's already been hung -- at this rate we'll have the thing done by evening...

*flicks wand at insulation in the next room, which begins hanging itself*

Yes, well. Cool excuses a lot, really. *grins at*

Peter speaks in a low, carrying voice.

"That wasn't intentional, Sirius. I wouldn't wish Azkaban on anyone. I just wanted the Ministry to detain you with pestersome questions for a hour or so while I got away. I didn't know Barty Crouch would bang you up in Azkaban without a trial! I didn't even know you were IN Azkaban till you broke out."

Without waiting for a response, he heads off to ask Raph if he can help with the drywalling.

*grins, and sets to work on carving a debauched revel of angels, demons, humans and gods, which nobody easily shocked should examine too closely*

Well, I'm certainly good at re-arranging things, and I'm sure my choir...errr.. my Lost Boys would be glad to help.... as long as you might be able to part with a pile of Peanut Butter Sandwiches...

*nods in your direction with a mouthfull of nails*

I have stained my hands before, and found it more a blessing than a curse. Besides, they are better used for honest labour such as this than for tugging at the strings of fate.

And how fare you this day, my princess?

Sure thing. Send them to Gil when they're done, I'm sure he'd be happy to make them some sandwiches. You reckon they'd be okay building bedframes? The extra rooms won't do us much good if we haven't got anything to sleep in 'em with...

*glances down*

*nearly swallows a nail trying not to laugh*

*mutters to himself, bitterly* Don't suppose you meant to get James and Lily killed and Harry grow up an orphan either...
