Bartending!

Claire steps behind the bar and immediately sets about wiping her down and then straightening the rows of liquor and garnishes. She's in a good mood today and hums to herself as she works.

When she's finally done, she turns to the patrons around the bar and smiles.


"Can I get anybody anything?"

"Oh." She nods. "So, did you have a good reason to be jealous? Or was it just one of those things?"

"I never have a good reason to be jealous. I'm just paranoid."

"That's not good," she says softly. "What did Michelle have to say about it?"

"She doesn't. She's not talking to me right now."

"Oh, Tony," she says again and sets a hand on his comfortingly. "Have you tried apologizing to her?"

Tony's hand squrims a little. Michelle wasn't as quick to jealousy as he was, but somehow he doubts she would take to his having physical contact with other women kindly.

"I have apologized to her, but she...she said she didn't have anything to say to me right now."

It was a quick gesture. Claire's hands are back on her side of the bar now.

"Well. . .maybe she just needs some time. She'll come around."

"I hope so. That doesn't mean I can't be afraid, does it?"

"Well. . .as long as you don't get in any more fights," she points out with a slight smile.

"That's not the only thing that's been going on."

"Spill it."

"Honestly I've been getting a little...bored...with Michelle."

"Bored with Michelle?" she squints at him. "Or bored with life at Milliways with Michelle?"

"I don't know. I'm just frustrated having to live with her day after day without discussing anything serious about our future. We already know what happens to us in the future, but we haven't planned anything...and honestly I'm a little tired with being cute and evasive with her." He looks down. "I don't know. Maybe she doesn't take me seriously, or I don't take her seriously..."

"Or maybe you really do just need to talk about things. Like really talk." She bites her lip. "Have you tried?"

"We try and it never works out. If we keep going like this...I'm afraid we aren't going to work out."

She nods. She can understand that all too well. "Hm. I 'm sorry about that, Tony. Are you both bound right now?"

"Yeah."

"I wonder if you couldn't go to a different place and time?" she muses. "I can, and if the two of you wanted, I could take you to New Orleans for a day or so. Or longer if you liked. It's difficult to plan a future with someone inside this bar, you know."

She knows. Oh, how she knows.

"That might be nice. I'll have to run that idea past her. If she'll listen to me."

"Would you like me to talk to her if I see her?" she offers.

"Okay," she smiles. "Things will work out if you love each other, Tony. I really believe that."

"I hope so, too." He finishes his milkshake. "How'd you know to make it strawberry, by the way?"

She gives him a strange look. "Because I've known you for like five months and you hate chocolate and only ever order strawberry."
