(no subject)

After his adventure and conversation with Adam, Raven remains in the bar.

He settles in a booth with some cider and a plate of banana bread.

He's adding beads and feathers to what looks like a dreamcatcher.

Bother him, if you like. Or have some snacks.

[Where Raven meets Asar-suti, for a discussion of purpose, speaks to Ace about Doom, briefly, then discusses food, and with some friend-schmoop. Also, Michael stops by, on Random's recommendation, and they discuss business.]

"Hello, Raven," Asar-Suti says, nodding to him. "I'm Asar-Suti. A god of magic, taking care of the magical library and the garden in this place."

He looks at the dream-ward. "There's Dream of the Endless, of course, but he doesn't do all the nightmares people have. Not intentionally, at least."

"Comfortable?"

That would be the last term Asar-Suti would use to describe any Endless, especially Dream. He was in Milliways during the Nyarlathotep incident, after all.

"Well, I'm rather scared of all the Endless, to be honest," Asar-Suti admits. "I used to be a Dark God, as in 'evil', and I'm sure they object to me. And Dream - I met a few people who were affected when Dream was Nyarlathotep, embodiment of nightmares, and even though he didn't mean to, I simply know I'm outgunned. The only thing I want of him is stay out of his way, sorry. I don't mean to offend you by talking against your friend, of course."

"Magic," Asar-Suti says. "I used to give magic to my people on my home world, the Ihlini. I was very much theirs, the way some gods belong to certain people, and those people to them? We were beaten, of course, as we were the evil ones in our history. Narrative causality."

Asar-Suti shrugs. "To be quite honest, I like it better here, now."

"An endless succession of charming and interesting and lovely people to meet, and whenever you think you've now heard of the most bizarre thing in the multiverse, there's some odder world yet, some fascinating new concept, some new exciting use of magic, someting that blows me out of the water and fills me with wonder. I have found friends here, I found love, I found ways to do something useful with my powers - what else could I want?" Asar-Suti declares, enthusiastically.

"Why should people be afraid of you?" Asar-Suti asks, then reconsiders. "Well, many people were afraid of me, as well. What were people afraid of you for?" he rephrases his question.

Tact? What tact?

"I was no longer useful, because I was sitting underneath a fallen fortress, behind my fallen Gate, and was vanquished. And I only ever had been useful to my own people. Here, I can do all sorts of magic there are, and help people if they let me."

"So you're a bit like Green!Jack, are you?" Asar-Suti says. "He wasn't always what he now is; and you are right, I wasn't, either. And of course there will be always something in you of what you were."

He nods again.

"I think it's a good thing for a god to be useful," he then agrees.

"Change happens; it is part of nature. Life is change; and when I started being a living person again, I started changing rapidly and deeply."

Asar-Suti sighs. "Not all gods are the same. Not just in their powers, also in their attitude to people."

"People are a joy and a miracle," Asar-Suti declares starkly. "I have always loved my followers and was glad about them, and here, I've extended that to my friends. When I can help them, it makes me happy. As if that were my real purpose, beyond the magic."

[identity profile] asar-suti.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"It is," Asar-Suti nods. "Well, perhaps not one large purpose, but more like many small ones, one after the other. One large purpose can make one delusional."

Asar-Suti gets up, sighing a little. "But it means I have a lot to do - I'll have to get on with things, now. I'm glad to have met you - I hope we can talk again soon."

He bows to Raven, god to fellow deity, and walks off, towards the garden, that will need attention, as it does every day.

[[OOC: And it was nice to meet you and your pup - I have been wanting to do that for a while. Thanks for the RP!]]
