Jack is carving today, outside under the trees with a view of the new grave. He is humming to himself.

Under his hands the block of wood is taking on a curving horn-shape, with a texture as if it were woven from reeds. There are almost no shavings on the ground.

"There's a lot of them here now," Asar-Suti says. "Seth or Joshua might still be too young for games, but Sunny definitely isn't."

He shrugs. "The only thing that might yet ruin the party is the air of general doom; I have no idea what happened to make so many people so subdued."

"There has been death," Jack says without looking up from his carving.

"Death? Who died?" Asar-Suti sounds alarmed.

He nods to the new grave. "Someone well-loved and deeply mourned."

He blows sawdust off the carving.

"But that has been here a few days," Asar-Suti says. "And the great feeling of doom only descended sometime between last night and this morning."

"There are battles being fought and friends endangered." He speaks mildly. "When one doesn't know the end of the story, it's easy to believe there will be an unhappy ending."

Asar-Suti nods.

"Worrying, waiting, and fearing for those that you care for are the worst things there are," he agrees.

"There are many here who are."

But he sees things as they truly are, and while he feels their mourning and shares it, he knows it will end, as all things do.

"There is an air of sadness, of fight, of uncertainty in this place - I can't be more precise, as I no longer have what the Hellfly gave me to confuse me," Asar-Suti says.

"Yes." He sighs. "There is great sadness and worry and fear."

"I wish I knew how to help," Asar-Suti says.

He's a practical kind of god, an he doesn't like to stand by when things start going wrong.

"Comfort those who mourn," Jack says, putting away his knife and looking at the horn. "Listen to those who need to speak.

"But don't interfere. Destiny must have its way."

Asar-Suti nods. "Yes, I suppose that will have to be it," he agrees. "I can help by listening and being there, and not doing anything - I learned about that in he week that I had that other magic, from the Hellfly. It is a bit hard to accept, though; I'd like to do more."
