Faith comes in from outdoors, looking quietly pleased, and acquires dinner and coffee, then curls up in front of the fireplace.

Tomorrow, there will be blood and violence and possibly all manner of woe. Tonight...tonight was good.

As Alain would say, it is well.

"Sorry," says Tiffany, contriving to make her voice as polite as possible, which we all know never works when you're 12. "I didn't know I was staring. I was just looking at you."

Tiffany shakes her head.

"I was wondering what you were."

"I'm a witch."

Tiffany tilts her head a bit. "I've never met a vampire. But I might have met a vampire slayer." She might be one, if the situation calls for it.

"Why not? Granny Weatherwax is the best witch in the world," Tiffany says, with pride-by-association. "If she slays a vampire, it will stay slain."

"Can you be a Slayer and a witch, too?" Tiffany asks, curiously.

"Well, what kind of powers do Slayers have?"

Tiffany doesn't have those.

"I wonder if there are any on the Chalk." She looks thoughtful. "I think I would have known, by now."

Tiffany nods. "We have witches. Witches deal with things, even vampires."

She glances at the door. "And I should go back, now. Good day."
