Hey, look! A Nita!

She looks pretty tired, but rather satisfied, as she sits in a booth not really reading her Poetry book.

“How does that work?” he asks curiously. “I’m not a wizard so…”

"Sentience in inanimate objects? Basically, everything is self-aware, at least a little, and everything talks." She shrugs. "Most people just don't know how to listen."

“What do you mean, everything? Like if I had a car would it try to talk to me?”

"Oh yeah." She smiles. "One of the first things Kit talked to was his dad's car, I remember."

“What did the car say?” he asks, amused.

"I think it complained," she replies with a grin. "But it also gave Kit its anntenna, and that came in handy later."

“What, did he use it as a wand?”

"Pretty much, yeah. And. . " She looks off into the distance for a moment. "Yeah, as a wand. On our Ordeal. I wonder what he ever did with it. . ."

“Ordeal?”

"It's the test new wizards go through, after we take the Oath. You go up against the Lone Power in some way."

"You told me about that, right? The Lone Power?"

"Yeah, I think I did."

He smirks. “Next thing I know you’ll start telling me you’ve been on crazy suicide missions like Jack.”

"Um." She glances away, then meets his eyes. "Well, I have."

“How old are you again?”

A small smile, a little older than it ought to be, maybe. "About fifteen."

“How many suicide missions have you been on?”

"Um, only one. Officially." She leans her chin on her hand.

“Officially?”

Tony’s starting to sound more like her father than her uncle. But sometimes the roles can overlap. The mun is not speaking in cases of incest.

"There've been a couple of situations I've gone into not really expecting to come out," she admits.

To quote another mun, it is at this time that Tony realizes that Nita truly is a Bauer!

“You know, if I squint and cover my ears I might be able to mistake you for Jack.”

Nita blinks. "How am I supposed to take that?"

I don’t know? You’re supposed to take it like I meant to compare you to a fortysomething ex-federal agent who can’t walk out the door without having a body count?

“Nevermind.”
