Nita's practicing the piano. Good for her. The tune is simple, easily recognizable for people from a certain time.

After a little while, she starts to sing -- softly, since she's not that confident in her singing abilities still.

Duo nods approvingly. "Irish accents are hot, aren't they? Did he have freckles?"

Muffled -- "Black hair blue eyes.*

"A very nice combination. They always seem to be the brooding, heroic type, though."

[nita_callahan]

She looks up. "He had a chip on his shoulder almost as big as Peach's." Beat. "Which is appropriate, I guess."

"She did seem a little... not cynical so much as overly experienced. I sympathize. Why's it appropriate?"

[nita_callahan]

"Those who serve the Powers, themselves become the Powers."

Which is not an explanation.

No, but he's heard that before. "Wait wait wait. Are you saying that you got picked up by a hot Irish guy who was partly a Warrior of Light, and therefore an aspect of your parrot roommate?"

She considers.

"That about covers it, yes."

Duo leans back on the piano and looks up at the ceiling.

"You live in a strange world, kiddo."

"Well, the 'normal' world wasn't always so hot, so. . ."

"When is it ever? But I sense a specific story, here. Wanna spill?"

[nita_callahan]

She shrugs. "Before I took my Oath, I was the nerd who got beat up a lot." She considers. "I'm still the nerd, but I don't get beat up anymore."

Duo scowls, briefly. "Nothin' wrong with being a nerd. I hate bullies. I hope you scared the shit out of them when you learned how to. Or would that be improper usage of power?"

He shakes his head. "People like that don't learn easily."

She grins. "Well, yeah, it was improper usage of power, but that didn't stop me at the time."

Duo throws back his head and laughs. "No, I'd say not. Good for you, though. Even wizards have to get their kicks somewhere."

[nita_callahan]

"There's ways that don't involve humiliating people," she replies, "and in general, they're more fun."

"Truth. And yet. I'd say you were doing the world a big fat favor, if it comes to people like that. Everyone oughta be able to defend themselves.
