"Aren't you a handsome cat?" The Ordinary Princess asks, holding out her hand for inspection.

*The brilliantly white cat leans forwards to sniff her hand, then pushes its head under her fingers for a scritch. She passes the test.*

The Ordinary Princess is very good at scritching, and is happily petting the cat. The extremely small squirrel sitting on her shoulder, however, looks a little nervous.

*Bright green eyes watch the squirrel, but the cat makes no move to chase it. This is too good a scritching to pass up.*

*Surely the cat would feel right at home, curled up on her lap. Surely, right?*

She sits down and begins to scritch the cat's ears. "I wonder who you belong to," she says. The squirrel, Simon Perryvall, decides it's a good time to explore the ceiling and jumps off her shoulder.

*The cat pads closer and leans into her hand, purring.*

*He is the cat who walks by himself, and all places are alike to him.*

*So he does not feel the need to ask permission before he steps down onto her lap, and curls up.*

This doesn't surprise her, as the Ordinary Princess has never met a cat who asks before doing anything and neither has her mun. So she lets the cat settle in, and then returns to rubbing his ears. "You really are a very nice cat," she says.

*The kitty purrs and twists around to lie on its back, still pushing its head against her hand. Its purr is pleased and content. A good purr is the sound of pure contentment, after all. He thinks that the Ordinary Princeess is a very nice human. Or at least a human who scritches well.*

The Ordinary Princess is pretty content, too. She has a lap full of warm, purring cat. It's a nice state for a human to be in. "A very very handsome cat," she says again.

Al loves kitties!

He holds out his hand to pet it.

*This cat rarely turns down a good petting. It leans into Al's hand, purring like a small, fur-covered motor. Unnaturally bright green eyes look up at him, half-closed in pleasure.*

Al scritches between the kitty's ears.

"Do you have someone to take care of you, kitty?" he asks. "If I took you home, I could take care of you. Ed would let you stay . . . probably."

*The cat, while not wearing any collar, looks and feel far too well-kept to be just a stray. It presses its head up against Al's fingers, trying to get more pressure in the scritching. It's purr is loud and pleased.*

"Maybe you are the restaurant's cat," says Al, continuing to pet. "You're very soft."

*The very white cat eyes Al, greenly. He is his own cat-shaped being, thanks.*

*A very soft paw is gently batted at Al's hand.*

Al jumps, just a little bit.

"Would you like something to eat?" he says, once petting has resumed.

*The cat yowls an affirmative, at once.*

As she approaches the bar to retrieve a glass of white wine, Moiraine offers the not!cat a faint, serene smile.

"Good evening, Yrael."

*He smiles at her, a catty smile, but he can't help that in this shape.*

Ah, good evening, Lady Moiraine. It is good to see you again. It has been too long.

"It has been quite some time, yes." She lifts one hand as if to scratch him behind the ears, but pauses, awaiting consent.

"How are matters with you?"

[mogget_cat]

*He pushes his head under her hand, purring warmly.*

Well enough, my friend. Well enough. Quiet, for the time being, for which I am thankful. And you? Are things well?

She scratches behind his ears.

"As well as may be expected." Serenely, with a careful sort of calm. "But you have found them quiet?"

They have been quiet for me, though for others I cannot speak. Svava has an errand to go on for Snow, and is or was in the process of moving into the Staff Wing. Nita and I had to speak over the topic of a person who had harmed a friend of ours. Faith just got back from a vacation on a deserted island. And a girl who calls me Buckley has been at war, it seems.

Quiet for me.

She tilts her head, listening, although the motion of her hand does not cease.

"Which war is this-- or perhaps I should ask, which girl?"

A pause.

"I have some interest in Nita. She is well, I may hope?"

I do not know the girl's name, or else I did not take note of it. Cheerful girl, though. Calls me Buckley, after an old boyfriend, if I remember correctly.

*He stretches, flexing his claws.* Nita is well enough. She was merely concerned at the time. Things have settled down nicely.
