Nita's outside, running around the lake. Because when you're running, you don't have to be thinking.

Peter nods.

"It's surprising, the number of people one never sees, even though we all live here. Well. In any case, it's very nice to see you again."

"You too." She thinks. "Didn't I see your name on the new Security hires?"

Peter grins proudly.

"Yes, I was just hired by Security. It certainly keeps one on one's toes."

"I'll bet. Have you had to deal with any crises yet?" She pauses. "Or are you not allowed to discuss that kind of thing?"

Peter laughs.

"No, no crises yet, and I've not been forced to sign a nondisclosure agreement yet, so I assume I'm allowed to discuss them when they happen."

She flashes a smile. "Sorry, I'm curious. I applied for a position, but Alanna said she wanted me to get some combat experience."

"Oh, ask away. It's been frightfully calm, thus far. I keep expecting something to explode to make up for it."

He raises an eyebrow.

"And are you going about getting that experience?"

She chuckles. "Not yet. But she invited me to be part of the trainee program."

Peter grins.

"Brilliant. I really should talk to Alanna about exactly what she'd like me to do in that."

"You're gonna teach? Any idea what?"

"Swordfighting, if anything, I suppose, though Alanna might have that covered. Or - possibly horseback riding?"

Peter shrugs.

"I'm not entirely sure what's needed."

"Riding?" She chuckles, embarrassed. "Horses kinda make me nervous. It's stupid."

"Any particular reason? I mean, bad experience in childhood, or...?"

"I fell off the one time I tried riding. And they're huge."

She's blushing a little, to be admitting this.

Peter nods.

"They are, rather. Well. I have a horse who should be delighted to meet you, I am sure, if you were at all interested."

"Maybe some time." She quirks a smile.

Peter smiles back at her.

"Just let me know. I'm afraid I can't say he's any smaller than normal, but he's very friendly."

"Well, that's good to know, anyway. Does he talk?"

When her brain catches up to her mouth, she tries not to facepalm.

Peter blinks, looks a little wary, though not very.

"...no, afraid not. He wouldn't let me ride him if he did."

"Oh, okay." She shrugs. "Well, around here, you never know."

Peter looks more than a bit dubious, but shrugs.

"No, you really don't, do you?"

Sounds like time for a subject change to Nita, because mentioning that Bree let Shasta ride him would just maybe be a bad idea.

"So where are you from, originally? Somewhere in England, I take it."

Yes, but that was an emergency. Emergencies and wars don't count.

"London," Peter says slowly. This is usually the point where he explains about Narnia as well, but he has a feeling she already knows.

She catches some of his dubiousness, and gives him an awkward look.

"Sorry, did I say something wrong?"

"No," Peter assures her hurriedly. "Just - I'm sorry, I'm not much good at this sort of dancing around a topic. You know about Narnia, don't you?"
