Faith's not certain what Kitty's plans for Edmund entail, but the phrase Won't be back for a while probably means it's gonna be good fun for both of them.

Never one to stand in the way of romance or intercourse, she has agreed to take Ed's bartending shift for the night.

Which is why she's behind the bar, clad in a very short red leather miniskirt and matching (backless) halter top, nervous and trying to hide it.

"Yes," Faith agrees. "Very different."

"An independent woman is not unheard-of in my times," he says, mostly to his cup, "but . . . well. Warrior-women. They are out of my knowledge."

"The technical term is 'Vampire Slayer.'"

He nods. "I had not heard of vampires, either, until I came here."

"You mentioned that," Faith says. "They're all over the place in my world."

"Why?"

"It's contagious. Being a vampire. They can make more of their kind overnight."

"So can orcs. Unnatural creatures," he says with a shudder.

"Vampires bite you, and drink your blood, and then get you to drink theirs."

There's revulsion on Boromir's face. "How vile."

"Yeah. Orcs don't do that, I guess?"

"Once they devour you, you stay devoured."

"Well, that's a plus. The way it works in my world...you're not yourself anymore. A demon moves into your body."

"Ah . . . we're not clear on the mechanics of orc creation but we know they're not born as men or elves. They are creatures of the earth, as I understand it."

"Elves?"

Faith looks very interested.

"You have, like, real elves?"

"Yes," he says with a nod. "They are an interesting race. I am good friends with one named Legolas, who has saved my life numerous times."

"Wow. Real elves. We have a lot of things in my world, but...not elves."

"They are a good people to have by your side in a fight."

"Real elves."

Faith is a little stuck on this.

"Very tall and slender beings. The elves of Mirkwood tend to be fair and the elves of Rivendell tend to be dark, but otherwise they are almost supernaturally lovely. They are graceful and strong and ageless, and quite . . ." He shakes his head. He is a man of the sword, not a poet.

"....real elves."

Faith blinks.

"Yeah. Wow. That's...wow. I'd like to see one."

"If I could go home, I'd fetch you one. But, alas--" He shrugs.

"Well, thanks for the thought. Maybe one will turn up."

"I would like very much to see Legolas again," he says softly.

"Well, maybe you will," Faith says, also quietly. "It happens all the time."
