A wizard is never late. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.

Which is why the front door opens at this precise moment, letting in Gandalf the Grey.

He goes to the bar and has a seat, and begins to fill his pipe.

"Your, eh, 'staff'--" He did quotey fingers. "--a little small there, pops?" Harper answered with a question.

Picture if you can, a child trying to light matches near an open tank of gasoline.

"The chicks probably don't," Harper said, shaking his head sadly.

When he was edgy, his mouth just kept going and going and going and it didn't stop, even if no one was there for him to talk to.

He was very edgy tonight, and toying with somebody released a little of the tension, even if it made him a jerk.

"Ooooh, nothin' in particular. Just making small talk. Idle chatter. Chit-chat, tit-for-tat, y'know? This place is great for that?"

He flopped down in the chair across from the wizard and leaned back with his arms behind his head.

"They get around to inventing the wheel yet where you're from? And fire? They have fire, right?"

Okay so it was the high stool next to the wizard.

"Y'know, pops, that stuff isn't exactly good for you. It's not much different from the flash."

"Oh yeah, like what?" Harper asked, swinging his feet slightly and ordering one of them: a nice frosty beer.

"So can beards. You get all sorts of things living in them," he said, scratching his chin thoughtfully.

"Strong, silent type, huh?" Harper chattered on. "I, eh, know a buncha people like you, but they tend to do the big, musclehead, silent act to impress the ladies."
