Naraht is in the bar. He's over at a table playing with a holo-reader. What is being displayed might seem totally incomprehensible to some people. To others, it looks like plans for a matter/energy transporter. Naraht is looking into cost and maintainance issues before asking about possibly getting a transporter to the upper floors installed.

Feel free to interrupt him, though.

That piques Naraht's interest.

"Indeed!" he says. "Well, I'm always up for trying something new. Thank you very much for thinking of me."

Chur holds out the twist of ui on her palm, claws retracted. "I traded for it at Kura, but if you end up really liking it, I suspect Bar can get some."

Naraht delicately takes the bit of coral in his fringe. He turns it over, feeling it, then takes it under to his grinders. A sound of hissing and munching is heard.

"Oh, my," he murmurs. "This is quite good. Not bitter at all...rather sweet but not as heavy as marble. Mother bless, this thing is more calcium silicate than calcium carbonate!"

Needless to say, the Horta is delighted. "Again, thank you, Chur. I will have to ask Bar for more later. I just wish I could return the favor. I don't suppose you'd be interested in Romulan Ale? I could try to get Dr. McCoy to part with some of his stash next time I go home."

Chur purses her lips into a smile, and her ears go forward in delight. "I'm glad you enjoyed it, Naraht," she says happily, before adding, "And, well, I'm up for trying any alcohol at least once."

Naraht laughs. "Well, I only had a limited experience with alcohol with my humanoid sojourn here," he says. "But I must warn you of what the good doctor told me. 'Most people drink Romulan ale to show they can."

Chur snorts. "Sounds like quite a few mahen drinks. But, I suppose it might be best to avoid that and settle for things my own species brews."

"I'll ask Chief Scott, then," Naraht says. "He's the Enterprise's self-appointed authority on alcoholic beverages. If anyone can recommend something that is a joy instead of a test of valor to drink, it's him."

Chur flicks her ears and sneezes a soft laugh. "That sounds like a good plan," she agrees. "Ui is one of the biggest exports off Anuurn, so if it's too expensive here, I can easily get it at any hani or stsho station for you."

"Considering Bar's resources...well, I don't really know what controls her pricing. I'll check it out."

Naraht finishes the treat with relish. "So you say things are going well for you? Do you mind going into detail? Any particularly sweet deals or interesting missions?"

Chur grins slightly. "Well - since my captain's the on-paper ruler of all of Compact Space, not many people want to trade with us, and we have a "no live cargo" rule for good reason... but we just completed a satisfying route finalization with one of the inner kifish worlds. Especially satisfying for me as I didn't have to leave the ship and smell a kifish station."

[ooc: ...and while I was reloading lj over and over again, I made myself late for class. slowtime?]

"Hassles of being at the top?" Naraht says sympatheticly. "I take it kif are...not pleasant in an olfactory sense?"

Chur nods ruefully. "They stink like ammonia and they will never willingly eat anything dead. It's not a good combination - but they're the ones who are most solid behind ker Pyanfar, so we end up being in kif space a lot."

"Well, my crewmates occasionally have to put up with some rather eye-stinging vapors when I'm around. We tolerate a great deal from our allies...and more from our friends."
