Naraht is in the bar. He's over at a table playing with a holo-reader. What is being displayed might seem totally incomprehensible to some people. To others, it looks like plans for a matter/energy transporter. Naraht is looking into cost and maintainance issues before asking about possibly getting a transporter to the upper floors installed.

Feel free to interrupt him, though.

Naraht waves cheerfully.

"Good afternoon, Amanda," he says. "At least, I think it's afternoon...or at least it feels like afternoon. In no place is time more relative than Milliways. How are you doing?

"Here here" she raises her glass up as if to toast, "I am doing well, taking it easy today. You?"

"Doing a bit of research," Naraht says. "Transporter tech isn't exactly my specialty, but most of it is pretty straight-forward. I'm just seeing about the feasibility of putting one in here for access to the upper levels."

He sighs. "I'm getting a little tired of sleeping in the garden."

Amanda shivers, "I can imagine. Now would the transporter be for everyone? Is it safe?"

"Oh, quite safe if properly maintained and operated," Naraht says. "Which may be the sticking point of getting one here. I'm not sure if Milliways has access to techs who can ensure that. And then there's the cost issue. Transporters are power gluttons."

He chuckles. "And you don't think me so selfish that I would insist of having it all to myself now, do you?"

she smiles, "Not at all, I was just asking?"

"I'm glad your doing better."

Naraht busies himself with rotating the hologram.

"Better," he agrees. "I'm not...completely okay with things, but I am better."

"Belive it or not that is a good thing."

Chur comes down from her room and brightens as she sees Naraht.
"H'lo, Naraht," she greets, once she's walked over there. "You're a bit larger than the last time I saw you."

"Ahhh! Good day, Chur," Naraht says and chuckles a little sheepishly. "Yes...I've had a bit of a growth spurt. Took several people by suprise. Myself included. How are you doing? It's been some time since we last spoke."

"I've been doing well," Chur replies. "This is actually my second time back since I was able to leave... but time seems to pass rather erratically here while my ship is in realspace."

She fishes in a pocket and comes up with a small twist of a nearly-translucent greenish-white ...thing. "I know you said that coral was like a vegetable for you, but I wondered if you would want to try some ui, which is Anuurni coral?"

That piques Naraht's interest.

"Indeed!" he says. "Well, I'm always up for trying something new. Thank you very much for thinking of me."

Chur holds out the twist of ui on her palm, claws retracted. "I traded for it at Kura, but if you end up really liking it, I suspect Bar can get some."

Naraht delicately takes the bit of coral in his fringe. He turns it over, feeling it, then takes it under to his grinders. A sound of hissing and munching is heard.

"Oh, my," he murmurs. "This is quite good. Not bitter at all...rather sweet but not as heavy as marble. Mother bless, this thing is more calcium silicate than calcium carbonate!"

Needless to say, the Horta is delighted. "Again, thank you, Chur. I will have to ask Bar for more later. I just wish I could return the favor. I don't suppose you'd be interested in Romulan Ale? I could try to get Dr. McCoy to part with some of his stash next time I go home."

Chur purses her lips into a smile, and her ears go forward in delight. "I'm glad you enjoyed it, Naraht," she says happily, before adding, "And, well, I'm up for trying any alcohol at least once."

Naraht laughs. "Well, I only had a limited experience with alcohol with my humanoid sojourn here," he says. "But I must warn you of what the good doctor told me. 'Most people drink Romulan ale to show they can."

And there is a Hank McCoy smiling at Naraht.

"Hank-hatchmate!" Naraht says with delight. "Just the entity I wanted to see."

He points at the holo-display. "I'm trying to discern if it's feasible to have a matter/energy transporter to access the upper floors. Getting the equipment seems fairly resonable, but running it safely without having a full time transporter technician...I'm not so sure. Transporter accidents are...well, to be avoided at all costs."

Hank gently taps Naraht's shell adn smiles and then eyes her and then eyes the schematics. Shi'ar technology always seemed a little cleaner than Starfleet... but that was possibly because of that whole thousands fo years to perfect it thing. He perused it more.

"It looks like the buffer would eb hard to maintain here. You might just be better off working on a kind of exoskelton or improved sled."

Naraht sighs. "Perhaps...not to mention that a transporter is a true energy glutton. I could probably build a bigger Dendromys but it seems such a hassle to simply go up and down a staircase."

The Horta stops and chuckles. "Though, not as big a hassle as installing and maintaining a transporter. I suppose it's because it's a new and interesting hassle."

You could try an exoskeleton instead. See, look."

And he ssketches a basic idea of a metallic belt she would wear around her, secured to her which could extrude support legs, much like a spiders, to walk her up and down the stairs.

"- so you see, if the legs and belt were amde of suitable material, it would be possible to support your weight, and still be maneuverable. In time, with training, it could even be used as a defense mechanism."

Hank trails off.

mun wonders why he always gets these weird ideas while in Hank's head... then goes... oh yeah.

Naraht examines the rough holo Hank has created on the viewer. "Hmmmm...Yes, that has possibilities. And being held three feet off the floor is nothing to me now that I've had to jump from orbit..."

Hir turns the controls. "But...there's a finite amount of width on those stairs. In order for those legs to have the right leverage, I'm not sure if we can make this set-up narrow enough once it's on me. Well, we could always talk to the management about installing a turbolift or similar device if we have to."

he hesitates more and then sighs.

"There is another transporter technology from my world that is somewhat more efficient. It might work better. Bar should be able to produce the schematics for Shi'ar site to site transporters. If Bernard and the Bar are willing to accomodate them, I can install them and there is very little maintenance needed as it works on an entirely diferent system."

he nods again.

"However, a thought occurs to me. I wonder if Bar would be willing, if provide with some effort from her cyustomers to create a Door To Door Elevator..."

"One directly from the Door? I don't think that would be necessary," Naraht says. "Just one at the end of the hall so those of us who find stairs a challenge can get to our rooms."

A dry chuckle.

"Or I could turn in my key and just find myself a nearby cave to use. It's not like I need much in the way of heating or bedding. But that basalt bed that's upstairs is so nice."
