Dinah is behind the bar. Mun's creativity is low, for which she blames a massive lunch.

"What can I getcha?"

"Big mug of hot chocolate with cayenne pepper in it and something in the oatmeal-and-dried-fruit family," Ray says cheerfully. "Apple for preference, but I'm not picky. Hi, Dinah."

"Hi, Ray," Dinah says brightly, before pouring out a hot chocolate and adding the pepper, before producing a large bowl of hot oatmeal with dried apple.

"And how have you been?"

"Oh, all kinds of ways lately," Ray says. "But things are better now. Much better. My girlfriend came back last night and she was okay, so- man it's great to be alive and awake some mornings!"

"Oh that's wonderful!" Dinah enthuses, her face lighting up. "I'm glad to hear it. Is she asleep now?"

Ray nods enthusiastically, the effect of which is ... well, no, it's not really spoilt by the chocolate mustache, is it? Not the way he's smiling.

Of course it isn't. A chocolate moustache only makes him cuter, in Dinah's opinion.

"So what's her name?"

"Romana. She's a Time Lord from Gallifrey, like Ace and the Doctor. Well, like the Doctor. Ace is originally from Earth, she just got her certification on Gallifrey." He grabs a napkin before going for the oatmeal. "She's in and out of here a lot- tends to wander off sometimes- this time there were pirates involved. I wish I'd been there to see that but she's telling me all about it."

Yeah, he's babbling. Is this a surprise?

It's not, and from Dinah's captivated expression and pleasant smile, it's clearly not even a problem.

"Well, it's good she's back. And with some fantastic stories as well, it sounds like. What happened with the pirates?"

"I haven't got a lot of the details yet," Ray says, "but apparently when she was off visiting one of the more interesting planets in her wing of the galaxy, she got temporarily separated from her TARDIS or something- she said she was 'stuck with' the pirates, so I'm guessing it was one of those all-swept-up-in-a-hurry things. They found a lot of gold but they also uncovered a major trove of ancient alien technology, which is more her speed than theirs, so now she's got the funky stuff as her souvenir of the whole trip and the pirates have all the gold they want. Something like that, anyway."

"Well, ain't that somethin'?" Dinah says. "Sounds like quite the adventure. But I bet if she's like the doctor it's just another day at the office, right?"

"Pretty much," Ray says with a grin. "Doesn't mean that it doesn't make a great story, though. I mean, pirates. Space pirates. How can you go wrong with that? I mean, assuming you're alive and whole and healthy and stuff afterwards, of course. There's a lot of ways you can go wrong with pirates if you're not specific."

Dinah's experience with pirates is limited to stories, of course, but she has some ideas.

"But these were nice pirates," she replies. "At least, they were good to Romana."

Ray nods. "Which is the important part, really, at least as far as I'm concerned. So it all worked out in the end."

More of the chocolate, but this time he remembers to use a napkin afterwards.

"She'll probably be bouncing in and out for a while again, but I can deal with that now that I know she's okay. I got worried for a while there."

"Oh yes," Dinah agrees, "I can imagine. I got ever so worried when I was away from Greaseball. You just want to know they're OK, don't you?!

"No kidding," Ray says. "Sometimes having a vivid imagination can be a real curse, I don't mind telling you... say, how're you doing, anyway? I've been nattering on this whole time about myself and Romana. I didn't even think to ask."

Oh, I'm just fine," Dinah says almost dismissively. "I've been home and found my man again. Now I can come and go as I please, and I have my job back here."

"That's great!" Ray exclaims. "I'm so glad to hear it! Being stuck in a place like this isn't bad, but being separated from your people- that's a serious pain. Good for you both."

"It sure is," Dinah admits. "Not that he missed me: didn't even know I was gone, but it sure was sweet to see him again. I can't tell you how much I missed him when I was stuck here."

"I kind of have an idea," Ray says. "But only a little. It's super that you get to go back and forth now, though."

"It really is," she agrees. "An' between you an' me, it's nice to get away from the racin' for a little while every so often."

"Yeah. Sometimes you really need to stop and take a breather, you know? I mean, then you jump back in and it's great and all, but sometimes a little pause helps make the rest of it more worthwhile."

"Sure does," she agrees. "Plus, this is waitressing, and I love waitressing."

"And you're good at it," Ray says solemnly. "I bet you meet a lot of people this way, too."

"I do," she admits. "But it's good to have regualr faces too.

"Can I getcha anythin' else?"

"Nah, I'm good," Ray says. "Thank you."
