In the outside arena we have one raven-haired ex-Peacekeeper. It looks like she's scratching something into the snow with a stick. Could be she's trying to figure out what you get a not!boyfriend for Christmas.

In the inside arena, at a booth, there's one Miss Thea Harman. She's swirling a glass full of red wine and looking generally malevolent.

"And if I were to say yes?"

Still smiling, still watching. His voice is lazy, careless, his gaze less so.

"I would have to leave our conversation. I have no desire to end up in a cell."

Beat.

"There is so little fun to be had there."

"I've got no particular interest in putting you in a cell."

Yet.

"Cells can be interesting enough, if you;ve got the right company."

Another smile.

"Just a hint, darling; referring to men as dinner doesn't go down well with many humans."

"I care nowt for what humans think." She shrugged lazily, rapidly changing moods.

"Everything has to eat. Even me."

"Humans can make things uncomfortable."

He studies her, no longer smiling.

"You can only eat souls?"

"Yes." She is equally joyless, frowning at a wall fixture. Even when Thea locked her away she could sense the hunger creeping up on her.

He tilts his head, studying her intently.

"Do you gain pleasure from it, or is it simply an act of survival? Will you die if you don't eat souls?"

"I do not need to answer your questions." The glare was possibly more effective, coming from a face that looked like it couldn't scowl to save it's life.

"No, but if you do there's less chance I'll call Security, and more chance I might be able to knock something up that'll stop you being so hungry."

"I will die. Along with this vessel." Thea muttered, sulkily. She would not go down alone.

"That'd kind of suck."

He considers.

"See, the bit I'm getting stuck on is what'll happen if you start eating people's souls. Most people are kind of attached to their souls, so I'm thinking you'd probably get stuck in a cell, and there's no food for you in there."

One hand absently pets the Bag.

"Me, I'm a grower. Might be able to make something that'll take away the hunger without you having to munch on someone's soul and get locked up."

She sat up straighter.

"I do not think that is possible." Her eyes shut slowly.

You would prefer that, would you not, Sweet?

Yes, you can survive without hurting anyone.

The boy will still be mine.

No!

Thea's eyes snapped open again. "It would suffice, for now."

"There're lots of things that people think aren't possible. I can do some of them anyway."

He tilts his head, studying her curiously.

"You're not alone in there."

"Should I call you Sherlock now?" The sarcastic reply was said softly, barely much point in saying it at all.

"Just interesting, is all."

He stands, hefting the Bag.

"If I'm to grow something that will sustain you as well as souls, I need to get to work."

"I will see you again." She nodded.

"If the girl is here, she will be...more agreeable. It may irritate you, but we have a deal."

He smiles.

"I've got no feelings about your arrangement one way or the other, really. I just think it'd be better in the long run if you didn't go around eating souls and getting yourself locked up. Besides, it's a challenge."

A low, half-mocking bow, and he's gone.
