Lilly is in the bar with coffee and a sheet of paper, on which she is making semi-frantic notes about what to get everyone for Christmas. There are a lot of people on this list, and not a lot of time. Hence the frantic.

This was easier when she was a ghost. Intangibility is the best 'couldn't go shopping' excuse ever.

He looks at her for a moment.

"DeadGileadNewCanaan -- and the world has moved on since."

Another pause.

And wry, this time: "Say sorry."

Lilly smiles crookedly at him.

"I'll forgive you."

She shrugs.

"After all, I stole your slang first."

[lastgunslinger]

"That you did." Just a wee bit ominously.

Also, smirking.

[awesome_lilly]

Lilly rolls her eyes.

"Whatever, it got even worse after you left. Alain- he taught me the Great Letters."

She still can't quite say his name normally.

Roland notices.

And -- thankfully -- chooses not to comment.

"So now you have some idea what a bitch it was for me to learn yours."

[awesome_lilly]

"Some idea, yeah."

Lilly smiles a little smugly.

"But I didn't find it that hard to learn yours."

[lastgunslinger]

"Of course not. You're not stupid."

[awesome_lilly]

"Say thankya, sai."

Lilly grins. Roland is still clearly an impressive sweet talker.

"So. How long have you been here? Have you seen people?"

[lastgunslinger]

"Got in last night. And -- seen a few, aye. Bernard and Tonks. Mal, Wash, and Simon. River." A small smile. "Ace, too. And the Lady, and Fleur."

[awesome_lilly]

"Very cool," Lilly says, smiling.

She hesitates a second.

"How long are you staying?"

[lastgunslinger]

"A few days. No more." Pause. "'Tis a way-station. Not home."

[awesome_lilly]

Lilly stiffens, just a bit.

"Yeah. I know."

[lastgunslinger]

"Suppose you do." Quietly.

[awesome_lilly]

"I always did," Lilly says, shrugging.

"I just... really know now."

[lastgunslinger]

Roland looks at her for a moment.

"Are you well?" Beat. "And no lies to save face, I beg."

[awesome_lilly]

Lilly is quiet for a long time.

"No."

[lastgunslinger]

He didn't expect a different answer.

"Are you going to be?"

[awesome_lilly]

"I don't know."

She shrugs, one-shouldered.

"Working on it."

[lastgunslinger]

"You learn to live with it."

[awesome_lilly]

"How?"

[lastgunslinger]

Roland is silent for a moment.

"You have something to look ahead to. And you keep moving toward it. And you don't stop."

Pause.

"'Tis a fine balance, though. Between learning to live with it, and letting that learning ruin you."

[awesome_lilly]

Lilly sighs.

"Great. Well, we'll see. I think if I ever suddenly lunge for Wash's throat, we can go with ruined by the learning."

[lastgunslinger]

Lilly gets eyed.

"You," he says, "are not me."

[awesome_lilly]

"Nope," Lilly says.

"I'm much prettier."

[lastgunslinger]

"Bullshit."

Says Old Long Tall and Ugly.
