Milliways' guide for first-time patrons

Autor's been a bit busy recently. He posts his Milliways' Guide for First-time Patrons up on the bulletin board, spreading out the maps.

He also posts the following note:

Attention: I, Autor, am writing this guide for first-time patrons, and require help finishing it. If you see anything missing, please let me know either via note or in person. I'll be sitting by the bulletin board until I finish a pot of tea.

The boy acquires his libation and seats himself at the table nearest the board to wait.

One of the first people to come and read the guide is Teja. He stands by the board quite a while, reads, and ponders.

Autor's reluctant to approach the Ostrogoth, considering that Teja branded him whiny and annoying the last time they met. Still, he scoops up his teacup and saunters over to the bored with aplomb.

"'Lo, Teja," the boy says quietly. "Found anything missing?"

"Greetings," Teja says. "I am still thinking. We might wish to name all relevant names, or none. I am not so important, in view of this all, that I need mention; and he history of the garden, if you wish to mention that, was slightly different."

Autor inclines his head. These are good suggestions, and he logs them away. "All relevant names?" he asks. "Such as a list of those in Security and the like? And what was the history of the garden, if you're so inclined?"

"Indeed," Teja says, "those in Security, those serving as Barmen, the ones working in infirmary, in the garden, and in the stables. And if you mention me, then it would only be fair to mention Jason Todd, who has a workshop for machinery down in the garage, and can build and repair almost anything that is either electronic or mechanical."

"Ah, that's a good point, too," Autor says, sipping his tea. "I hadn't thought to include Jay's workshop, but I will most certainly do so. Would a list of those who work in Security make the guide too cumbersome? I would like it to be easy to digest."

"You might add the names as an appendix," Teja says. "But it would be good to have them, so people will easily find one; the same with the infirmary, which is not simply Guppy and Simon, either. And one mus name the Barmen."

[herr_bookman]

"Good idea," Autor says, nodding along. "I'll have to track that information down. It might be difficult to keep it updated, as people come and go so often."

Jay leans against the bench and reads through the guide. He pads over to Autor, looking a little worse for wear since the last time they talked. "Hey Autor, this is really good. Only thing I can think to add is that I have trackers people can use if they want to explore the garage. It'll lead them back to the elevator so they won't get loss."

Autor stands, taking his teacup with him to approach Jay. "'Lo, Jay. I'll add that in as soon as possible," he says. "Thanks for the input. Do you mind your workshop being mentioned?"

"I'll get a bunch of them programmed and set them up in a box by the elevator." He nods. "Sure, why not. People might find it useful."

"Those trackers sound interesting," Autor says, furrowing his brow. "I'll make a note in the guide that they're there. Can they lead to anywhere, not just the elevator? They might be useful in the forest, too."

[runningred]

"They're just a bracelet with an arrow pointing in the right direction. I can program them to point to anywhere you need to get to." He drums his fingers on the table. "No reason I couldn't build more complex ones with multiple tracking points."

"Could you program them to track each other?" Autor says, blinking. "It would be interesting if you could make a sort of hide-and-go seek game out of a bunch of them depending on the inputs you'd place."

Jay grins and moves his hand. Without seeming to reach into this pocket or sleeve, he has a tiny tracker between his fingertips. Something about the size and thickness of a fingernail. "Autor, with the right programming, I can track anything or anyone."

"But yeah, that could be fun. Set up a game of tag that way. Could make life interesting as a sparing exercise."

Leave it to Clementine to blurt out the first thing that crosses her mind upon seeing the new pamphlets.

"No one told you about the whorehouse, did they?"

Ahahaha omg!

The boy chokes on his tea. "Ah," he says, once he recovers, "I... I actually knew about that"--and here his blush is compounded, color bursting on his cheeks--"but I chose not to include it, for obvious reasons. Do... do you think I should?"

She shrugs. "It's your list, man." Clem knows kids come in and out of the Bar at all times, so it's probably not a good idea to bring it up automatically as you come in through the door.

"Yes," Autor says, recovering with a sip of tea. "We... I might not want to include that, I think, unless there's an uproar about it. I wouldn't want to... possibly scare anyone away from the bar! Right? Right."

She chuckles. "I've been up there. It's not as scary as it could be. Unless you ask for Svetlana."

[herr_bookman]

"I don't even want to know how a brothel could be scary," Autor says, swallowing.

"The things I could tell you," Clementine declares, "would make your hair curl. I mean, once there was this lube fire and..."

Kitai still has trouble reading beyond the very basics Tavi has been teaching her, but something she does understand catches her attention. She glances at Autor.

"Did you write this?"

Autor turns his head to greet her, and then stands. "I did," he says, inclining his head. "Do you see anything that it needs?"

She shakes her head. "I cannot read it very well. I would like to know what it sas here. Can you tell me?"

She points at a single word, 'horse'. It's the part about the stables.
