She lied to Adam.

She's terrified.

But it's somehow not that bad, either.

"I want you to." Because even if Aslan hadn't said they could want no wrong thing, she thinks this would feel right.

If she were to ask him, Caspian would admit that he is terrified, too.

But beyond the terror, there is the promise of Lucy and the thought of how he loves her.

So he nods, and reaches to brush her cheek, lightly, his fingers lingering at her neck.

"Then I will."

"I would like that," raising a hand and pressing it to his.

It's no less scary, but it is easier, a bit, to have decided, at the least.

"So would I," he says, leaning forward to kiss her lightly, and says, "I love you," softly against her mouth.

Scary it might be, but there is the joy of discovery as well.

It all balances out in the end.

"I love you too," before kissing him again, briefly. "A rather frightening amount."

Leaning his forehead against hers, Caspian smiles at her, his hand going to the back of her head and sliding into her hair.

"Why frightening?"

"Because I never knew I could love someone this much." She gives a return smile as she brushes at his cheek with her right hand. "I just. Didn't know."

He leans into the touch, eyes warm.

"Neither did I," he confesses.

"I thought that I'd rather reached the limit, when I died still loving you. But now I love you even more and it's all still very incredible."

"You would think that would be at the top," Lucy says. "And oh, it is. Incredible and lovely and scary."

"You forgot wonderful," he says, and kisses her again.

And when he pulls back, he laughs, low and deep in his chest.

"You're scared, too?"

"Utterly terrified," she admits with a sheepish grin. "And oh, am I glad you are." It makes it a bit better.

"I haven't been this frightened in years," he confesses.

"And I'm not even sure why I am, now, except that it's partly that I don't want to make any mistakes and it's partly because it's a little bit hard to breathe, sometimes, when I'm around you."

Lucy laughs, a little, and strokes his hair. "Well, I shan't know if you make a mistake, even, and I'm fairly certain at the moment I'm going to make at least one. So that shouldn't bother you, at least."

"We'll both make mistakes," he says, with a smile.

"And that's all right."

Because they'll learn to fix them.

His tumb traces idly over her cheekbone.

"You won't laugh at me?" and she's mostly teasing, before the hand in his hair pulls his head closer for another kiss.

He thinks about this, or at least tries to, before he is distracted by her mouth and the taste of her, and what may have originally been intended as a short, sweet sort of kiss deepens into something else entirely before he pulls away again.

"I won't laugh at you," he promises.

He may laugh with her. But probably not at her.

Laughing with her is good.

It's at least half the fun.

Lucy's breath is a bit shakier than it was before the kiss, but her smile is content. "Good. That's all right, then."

He smiles at her, and brushes a lock of wayward hair from her face.

"Any other questions?"

She grins and shakes her head. "No. That was the last one."

"Good," he says, grinning back. "I'm not sure how many more of them I could have answered. You're very distracting, you know."

"Oh, am I?" With more than a bit of mischief in her eyes. "I could stop, if it bothers you."

"Now, Lu," he says, sternly, "don't be putting words in my mouth. I said nothing about it bothering me, did I?"

He certainly doesn't seem bothered.

"Oh, do forgive me, Caspian, please?" Definite mischief. "For that and because I rather like distracting you and think I'll do it often."

"Who am I to refuse such a plea?" he laughs.

"And rest assured I will almost certainly forgive you for any distraction you feel is neccesary." Shaking his head, "I suppose if we do get a dragon, you'll be taking it's side in everything, won't you?"

He must be terribly distracted, to not have noticed that he said we instead of you.

"I'm comforted by that." But she does notice, and her grin could light up the room. "Are you planning on fighting often with it?"

This is not, strictly speaking, an answer, of course, but that's a minor detail.
