Toga Party

Atop a long table in one corner of the bar sits a row of punch bowls containing ladles and various cocktails: from margarita to plain screwdriver. These are accompanied by several bowls of ice, some containing various bottles of beer. There are stacks of plastic glasses, paper plates, napkins, and a large pile of ivy wreaths at one end. The drinks are buffet-style at this party, so help yourself.

There are plates scattered over the residual tables in the area, some overflowing with huge bunches of grapes, others containing savory fare such as chicken legs, hunks of bread, olives, cheese or humus dips.

To try and give an impromptu impression of a Roman/Greco theme, the tables have been topped with white tablecloths and chairs and surfaces strewn with ivy. If there had been a way to fashion columns or import colonnades in twenty four hours, Indy would have tried it. But ivy will have to do on short notice. At least its not poisonous.

"I... erm... yeah." She blushes. It looks rather interesting, what with the costume.

"It's okay to enjoy it," Charlie assures her in a whisper, nodding wisely.

"Errk." Ace buries her face in her hands.

...

Well, at least something is covered.

"Oh, love. You're going to be a wreck the day after your wedding, aren't you." He hugs her again, just because.

The broad grin reappears.
"Yeah." Because there's going to be a wedding, because Tim is back, and it's wonderful.

"Well, I'm so happy for you, darling. It's wonderful to get them back. Only at Milliways, I think.

"Is he okay? Doing all right?"

"He's... he's good. Reajusting. I don't think he's quite used to being human-shaped. Evidently he spent quite a long time being rather spread out." And thus, Ace wins the understatement of the year award, again.
"And before I forget, how's Bartleby doin'?"

"Better." He smiles like he could say a great deal more but is restraining himself for propriaty's sake. "Much better."

Oh, now he restrains himself for propriaty. I see, that's how it is.
"That's good. You gonna be letting him come down?" She's teasing, and grins. "Keeping him up there for y'self isn't fair, you know."

"oh, darling, you know I want to show him off all over the place. He's not up to crowds or anything yet, though. The first time he ventured downstairs he wore himself out just talking to people.

"Bt I do worry about him spending too much time sleeping." Instead of doing much more fun things with me inna sack, the sparkle in his eye says.

"You let him sleep?" She asks, cheekily. "Well, that blows that theory of why I haven't seen you as much lately." But she relents. "Well, tell him Ace says hullo, yeah?"

"I haven't much say in the matter," Charlie says with dignity. "If he drops off I'm not going to wake him up.

"If I can get him to stay awake--" He grins. "Then the fun begins, yeah?"

"Well no wonder he never comes down. You keep wearing him out up there." She pouts, most convincingly.

Charlie smiles, plucks at his toga-like garment, and mutters, "Yeah."

Grin, grin, grin.

Woe, Ace cannot pluck at her garment, since that'd most likely make the darn thing come off, and then where would she be? Breaking the 'no naked in the bar' rule.
"I could see how this'd be a hard problem to solve." She nods, sagely.

"He was gone for three months and then in pain every second for another. I am . . . completely happy with this turn of events."

Ace looks a good deal shocked.
"Oh God, Charlie, I didn't know it was that bad!"

Charlie nods and continues plucking. "He's human now, you see. He's not had an easy time adjusting to a human body.

"But I think he's a bit more comfortable in it now."

"He's... human?" Ace is now very very confused. "But... he... I mean..." She gives him her best bewildered look. "How?"

"They took his wings and that made him mortal. I don't know much more beyond that, except that he actually died as an angel and came back as a man."

Shocked and confused turns into horrified.
"Oh... oh no, that's horrid..." She says, faintly.

More nodding. "He says he was given a choice."

Ace really doesn't know what to say about that. She can't really wish that he'd made a different choice, because then he might not have come back to Charlie.

So she hugs Charlie instead.

"Thanks, Ace-girl," Charlie murmurs. He smiles at her. "It can only get better, yeah?"

"You got it." Ace agrees, firmly. "I think we've done our share of wail and woe for the decade. Time for a break."
