Okay, he's back. Jittery, (though he knows better than to show it,) and watching the bar from a place in the corner (where he can have his back to a wall) and fingers curled tight around his glass.

But he is here.

"I did not think so, but even if it is a moment with terror and burning and fear, and you are so startled you cannot breathe, you regret it later."

He didn't mean to. Really.

"But if you are sorry about it..."

He glances at Jack, concerned. "You regret it?"

"I do. I was just startled."

He was being mugged, after all.

"Then it was an accident."

He nods a little. "I see."

"No. He attacked me and I attacked him back."

Rather well.

"But you did not mean to kill him? Or did you?"

He won't judge anything.

"No. Yes. I was not thinking. I put out his eyes so he could not see me, I think."

It was a blurr.

He nods.

"Then it wasn't your fault, really. If I'd had the sense of it at the time, I'd have tried to do the same during my death. But I was rather in a lot of pain."

"And I am more dangerous than you are."

He nods, evenly.

"So if I had let him land more than a few blows, I might have been the same as you."

He nods.

"You did the right thing, then."

"Thank you. I do not really believe that, but I would not be a very good person if I did."

When you think about it, it makes sense.

"Well, you did what you thought was right at that moment."

"I told Parker I regretted it and he almost shook me."

Jack shrugs, vaguely.

"He was concerned. If you had not, you might've--"

A hand wave.

"Yes."

He shrugs again.

"Maybe you could tell me about your home again?"

He laughs a little.

"I might run out of things to tell you about it."

A pause. "The city where I used to frequent was very strange, however. And the Wizard was even stranger, from what I'm told."

"What did the wizard do?"

He's never met a wizard.

He narrows his gaze.

"He was a very awful person and happens to be the reason I am quite dead." Indirectly.

"Ack."

He shakes his head.

"Terrible. Why?"

"Because he was about his own concerns and ... he did not believe the Animals were worthy."

"They are the conscious ones, yes?"

He nods.

"I would be angry at him."

"Elphaba was."

A softer nod. "It was ... I have been reading, bits and pieces. Of Earth."

"I like Earth."

He nods.

"And you will be coming there, think of it."

He nods.

"But I mean. I have been reading, and some things the Wizard did are like smaller things of what others did. It is ... a bit intimidating."
