At some point this morning, a little six-year-old sneaks out of the infirmary, where she decided to sleep last night.

She's in the same outfit as yesterday, and her hair could use a good brushing and being pulled back again, but she's cheerfully sitting on a barstool eating chocolate chip pancakes and drinking chocolate milk.

She's only here for one more day, folks, chat with her while you can!

He grins at her, as Megan attaches herself to his leg.

"So where do you come from, Rilla?"

"I'm from Hartford, Connecticut," she declares.

She'd rather be from New York like Mr. Mark, though.

"Oh. That's not one of the places I've been to. Is it nice there?"

She shrugs. "I dunno. I'd rather live in New York!"

Liam laughs. "Have you ever been there? Or just met someone from there?"

"Miranda took me last year! And it was really cool and big and anyway Mr. Mark lives there and I'm gonna be in his movies." As she writes bestselling novels, of course.

Liam grins at her. "And I bet you'll be a great actress. I've been there a few times, but I live in Sydney now."

"Well, I'm really gonna write stories like L.M. Montgomery, but I wanna be in Mr. Mark's movies 'cause he's nice and got me lots of books." She attempts to pick up her bag. "See?"

He looks, and his eyebrows go up.

"That is a lot of books. Keep you in reading for a good long time."

"Uh-huh! An' then I'll be bigger and I'll be able to get a library card!"

Since Mom and Daddy won't buy her books.

"...when you can go out on your own, you mean?" he asks carefully.

"Uh-huh." That gets lots of nodding. "'Cause then I don't have to read books I already read!"

Not that she has anything against re-reading... but there's so many books out there...

"Not many books in your house, then?"

"Just the ones Miranda didn't take, 'an Daddy's medicine books."

"Miranda's... your sister?" he hazards.

"Uh-huh. She's gonna be a lawyer."

She's in law school and everything.

"She sounds smart", Liam says with a grin. "And what're you going to be, apart from a writer and an actress?"

He knows six-year-olds well enough.

"I'm gonna grow up and fall in love and live happily ever after."

She's got simple dreams.

She does, and whatever light-hearted thing Liam was about to say never makes it out of his mouth. After a moment, he just smiles.

"That sounds like a really good plan to me."

She beams.

The narration agrees with Charlie and wishes she could be scooped away to live with Gil and Jack, or with Liam and his family, 'cause this little girl needs to be appreciated.
