Shufti and CJ's wedding

Chairs set out, a gazebo at one side of the garden. Little bunches of flowers decorate the makeshift aisle.

It's a warm sunny afternoon, with no sign of rain, perfect for a wedding.

"Thank you." Shufti says happily, hugging her.

"And thanks for coming. How are you?"

Makita hugs back tightly, "Of course. I'm pretty good," she loosens her grip and leans back with a grin, "How about you?" As if she can't tell already.

"I'm... just great." she says excitedly. "And Jack is too. I'm glad you came, I've missed you."

Makita grins and refrains from hugging Shufti and ruining her dress. "Missed you too." It's really the first time they've talked since she shot Zuko. Makita's almost surprised at how at ease she feels now.

Shufti hugs her anyway. The dress will cope.

"You're looking better at least. How has your home been?"

"The same," she shrugs. Makita steps back and looks Shufti up and down, "You look very pretty."

"I'm sorry." A small smile. "Thank you. I was worried I'd make it wrong, but it seems to have turned out okay. And Jack hasn't grown out of his suit just yet."

"It's a good thing," Makita grins, "That you didn't wait too much longer. He's growing so fast."

"I know. I had to make it just last week!" she says. "And you should see the rate he gets through shoes."

"You know," Makita grins, "You could do what my father did: get some shoes that are way too big. He keeps telling me that I'll 'grow into them'."

She nods.

"I would, but the book said that could rub his little feet."

"Well," Makita grins, "You get used to it. But I suppose he's probably happier with shoes that fit."

[shufti]

She nods. "And he'll fall over less. He's only been walking a few months after all."

Makita considers this then nods. "That's true. I suppose you can always get him shoes a few sizes too big in a couple of years."

She nods.

"Yes, I could. Or maybe by then I'll have found another couple of mums with slightly bigger children."

Makita smiles, then reaches forward and hugs Shufti again, "I'm happy that you're happy."

She hugs back.

"Thank you. I've never been happier."

"Beer!" Jack announces, noticing that his mother is doing far too much hugging today.

That gets a grin, "I see his vocabulary hasn't been keeping up with the size of his feet."

"Oh he has lots of new words now, he just likes that one."

"You must be very proud of him." Even through the teasing, Shufti can probably tell that Makita's serious.

She smiles.

"I am. I guess I must be doing something right. He has his moments like any one-year-old but I'm just glad he hasn't turned out traumatised so far."

Makita reaches out and grips Shufti's arm, then squeezes slightly, eyes wide. "He's wonderful." She smiles a bit sadly, "I don't think he'll turn out like me at all." Scarred and war-weary.

"Nor me, I hope." she says softly, squeezing back.

"I have to go mingle, but thanks again for coming. And look after yourself."
