It kind of comes as no surprise that Clark and Chloe wander in to Milliways after a lunch on the town. After saving the world (okay, not the world but Bart and the Metropolis area contingent of super powered individuals) and putting up with a five minute rant from Lois about why men suck, there really is no other logical choice.

There's no Lex Luthor to fight here. No Lois to be bitched at by. Absolute peace and relaxation and the best coffee in the universe.

So as Clark goes to grab a booth, Chloe goes to get two lattes. Yeah. They totally deserve today.

Clark straightens up in his seat immediately, like he's been caught red-handed. Except he wasn't doing anything so there's a tiny pout, too.

"Well, you're my friend, so... yeah." Then he clears his throat and totally composes himself. "Chloe, this is Eirene. Eirene, this is Chloe. My friend."

Yep. Totally composed.

Eirene has no idea why Clark is now acting strangely, so she simply leans further over the back of the booth and offers a hand to the new arrival.

"I have been looking forward to meeting you, Chloe. Clark wishes me to ask you about games of tag."

Insert completely innocent smile here.

Chloe's eyes narrow and she blinks in confusion. One of the lattes is placed on the table in front of Clark so that she can shake the woman's hand.

"Tag?"

She looks over at Clark: "Tag?"

Please ignore Clark trying not to laugh. He knew Chloe's reaction would be priceless.

"Eirene thinks I need to have more fun," he attempts to explain. "We were thinking maybe you and I should start taking time off to play tag in Metropolis occasionally." And so he doesn't just start giggling, he takes a sip of his latte and looks at Chloe with completely innocent eyes.

"Oh, yes. Tag. It is a children's game, of course, but it also provides a chance to out think your opponent and push the limitations of your body."

She's talking about tactics and exercise, people.

"Clark mentioned after our snowball fight that he does not relax as much as he should. So, I think it's a wonderful idea for his friends to make him play tag."

"Tag," she deadpans for the third time in a row. She continues to stand in front of both of them, eyes flickering from one to another.

Don't think she didn't see that sign of snuffed-out laughter, Clark.

"While I'd totally be the first to second the notion that Clark does need more fun... tag?"

He shrugs and puts on his best serious face.

"It doesn't have to be tag, Chloe. We can play hide and seek if you'd prefer." Just know that Clark will be cheating at that, too. "Skipping rope kind of seems out since it's just the two of us."

"This is true." Obviously Eirene hadn't thought that far ahead, or maybe she just really likes tag. Who knows.

"I am going to retrieve myself a tea. Would it be alright with you, Chloe, if I sit down and converse on my return? You are the first of Clark's friends that I have met."

"Um, yeah, I guess."

In the face of such perplexity, Chloe really doesn't know how to respond. So she just shrugs, taking a seat across from Clark.

There's another quick glance up at Eirene. "You know he'd cheat at any game you'd try."

"Hey!" Clark exclaims in mock outrage. "I'll have you know Eirene beat me in that snowball fight and she nearly won tag, too." Of course, Clark more or less let those things happen, which Chloe probably can tell.

"But if you're going to expect me to cheat, then I'll happily comply."

Eirene turns wide, blue eyes on Clark. "You cheated?" For two or three seconds, he might even believe her expression is anything but teasing.

"On that note, I'm getting my tea."

And she straightens up to vanish into the crowd, giggling.

The moment Eirene vanishes, Chloe leans forward across the table. Her eyes meet Clark's and she stares, insanely curious.

And possibly a little bit hurt.

"Okay, spill."

Clark stares back, one eyebrow raised and a genuinely confused expression on his face.

"Spill what? She's a friend I made and I wanted her to meet you, and you her."

Her eyebrows raise. "'Your Chloe'? That totally wasn't friend meeting friend excitement, Clark."

"Well, Eirene's a little... different," he glances down at his hands and then sheepishly looks back at Chloe after a moment. "She's sort of a goddess."

And that sheepish look is because...?

Chloe still doesn't believe him. More than that: "You could've mentioned her."

"Oh, this coming from the girl who was dating someone here for years before you bothered to mention it to me," Clark shoots back. "Which you didn't even do until I found that picture of the two of you."

He sighs. This isn't exactly the way he'd planned on things going. "I just met her a few weeks ago, okay?"

"That was different," Chloe protests. And it totally was: Clark hadn't known about Milliways at the time.

"A few weeks is a lot of time."

"Chloe, she's a Greek goddess. Immortal. A few weeks is barely a blink of an eye for her."

She leans back and tilts her head. He can really be thick sometimes.

"I wasn't talking about her."

"It's a few weeks," Clark repeats, eyeing her. "It's not like we've spent every day of it together, either."

Said goddess separates herself from the rest of the crowd in a timely manner, holding a mug of tea in front of her like a shield. It's apparently a smooth way to avoid people bumping into her.

"Hello, I'm back."

Beat.

"May I join you two?"

Well, if Clark's not going to be forthcoming, maybe Eirene will be.

Chloe puts on a bright grin, ready to pretend that nothing had happened since the goddess left for tea.

"Not much of a coffee fan?"

Clark would, naturally, insist there's nothing to be forthcoming about. But he's unaware that might be currently necessary, so he just scoots over to give Eirene room to sit down beside him.

"Not everyone lives by the bean, Chlo."

Eirene has no idea of the forces arrayed against her. Even if she did, the goddess would not necessarily turn tail and run, which leads to her flopping down next to Clark with an equally friendly expression.

"Turkish coffee, on occasion, is a wonderful way to boost my awareness. Unfortunately it only lasts a minute or two."

She shrugs.

"I am trying to discover as many different drinks as I can. Do you have any suggestions?"
