There are quite a number of brightly colored plastic things all over the floor in Milliways. We're talking, easily thirty of each four types of manipulatives.
All
Over
The
Floor
You have not even SEEN a mess before you have seen the way a toddler can mess up a room with a bunch of tiny plastic toys. As for the toddler in question, she is planted somewhere in the middle of the mess, playing with the toys. She is still wearing the shirt with names all over it (BOO! being the prominent one) and the house shoes that jingle and sing. Every once in awhile she'll wiggle her feet and either jinglejingle or "If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands" can be heard. And next to her is a pink adult sized throw made out of what is possibly the softest material ever.
Oh the fun she's having.

"Boo! Hey, come back!" He calls out, looks one way, then the other and picks a direction and heads off in it quickly.
"Stay away from the bunnies Boo! An don't mess with any cookie dough you might find!"
Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit.
no subject
Yeah. That's gonna happen.
The gleeful noises miiiight be coming from the vague direction of the woods.
Or perhaps the lake?
It's really hard to tell. Everything seems to be echoing.

And abandoned Bill cake, a sure sign of Something Ominous.
Then she'd heard what she thought was Bill's voice through the open back door.
So now, she's stepping onto the porch and looking for a certain toddler and a certain sheriff.
She wasn't even gone for ten minutes; they couldn't've gotten into that much trouble, right?
no subject
"She better not be set on fire. Or drown. Or lost. God, what if that tofu thing is still out here?"
With this positive thinking Bill steps into the tree line.

Followed by the sound of Boo squeeees.
Lots of splashing and squeeing.

Maybe she wanted to look at the fish again.
Kate starts walking toward the lakeshore.

He dashes towards the lake, pulling off leaves and twigs and hurrying towards the splashing noises.
"Boo!" He doesn't take the time to notice how much fun she's having because HOLY CRAP SHE'S IN THE WATER!
With a splash he's in the lake, sloshing over to Boo and picking her up quickly.
no subject
Her wet and almost naked self starts to flail and kick and squirm and try very hard to get down INTO THE WATERS OF FUN!
no subject
" -- everything okay?"
It's ... obviously not.
no subject
He panics when she starts to cry, thinking that she's hurt and he tries to look her over for injury only she's squirming and kicking too much for him to do it.
"Boo! Wait...you gotta...let me see..." He struggles with her as he starts trying to slog back to shore.
At Kate's voice he looks up quickly, slips on an algae covered rock, and falls into the water.
Somehow he manages to turn so he's landing on his back with his arms up, holding Boo out of the water.

"God, Bill — "
She takes Boo in her arms so Bill can sit up, and starts checking Boo over for scrapes.
"It's okay, sweetheart ... Bill, are you all right?"
no subject
"She okay? I'm sorry Kate! She got away from me an I couldn't find her and she came out here an is she hurt?" He wipes water from his face and tries to catch his breath back, looking over Boo with worry.
no subject
"Wad'r iisss!"
Wigglewiggle.
DOWN!
"iisssss!" Whiiiiiiiiiiiine.
no subject
Satisfied that Boo isn't hurt, Kate lets her scramble down to play in the water, then turns to give him a concerned once-over.
She brushes back a lock of hair plastered to his temple, worry etched on her features.
"Are you okay?"
no subject
"Yeah, I just...second time I've fallen today." A quick smile at Kate and then he decides sitting in the water a bit longer isn't so bad as his body, mostly his back, sorts itself out.
"I was worried she was in trouble." He says by way of explanation for why he's in the water and was making the attempt to drag Boo out. "Guess it's a good thing it ain't deep."
no subject
"IISSSSS!" She points and runs back to Kate and Bill and tugs on their clothes and points more. "ISSSSISSS ISSSS!!!"
no subject
"Sorry she gave you a scare — we came out here a few days ago to look for fish."
Kate turns to Boo at the tugging and grins.
"Did you find another one?"
But before she stands to go investigate, she glances back to Bill.
"Promise you're not hurt?"
From where Kate had been standing, that fall had looked rough.
no subject
Smiling at Boo's enthusiasm he nods, "Yeah. Fish. Little fish, too small for eatin."
A bit rough, yeah. But he waves Kate off and tries to reassure her, "I'll be fine. Just lemme know if you see that squid or any three-eyed fish."
no subject
"isssisssississsisssisssissssss!" She sings to herself.
no subject
She tries to brush the cakey, ice creamy mess from her shirt, though it's a lost cause at this point. So she gives up and dusts her palms on the (relatively) dry thighs of her jeans and offers her hands to Bill.
"Need some help, sheriff?"
She's not convinced he's entirely unhurt, despite his nonchalance.
no subject
Stifling a groan as he straightens up he wrings out the bottom of his shirt and looks at Kate, "Guess we jumped the gun on gettin you cleaned up, huh?"
Looking over at Boo he laughs, "Hon, you ain't gonna find any fishes that way. You'll scare em all off."
no subject
But she likes the fish!
She points, head tilted slightly.
"Isss byebye?"
no subject
She follows Bill's gaze and looks at Boo, then wades closer to the toddler to see where Boo's pointing.
"Did the fish swim away?"
no subject
He puts his hands on Boo's shoulders, trying to keep her calm long enough to coax the little minnows back out from hiding.
