[OOM: A quick refresher of what happened before or Johnny's last stand parts One, Two and Three...]

Ben shuffles in and is relieved to see it's the middle of the night here and not too many folks are around. He walks with his shoulders hunched, as if carrying the weight of the world, and doesn't meet anyone's eyes for very long. He stops at the Bar to leave a letter and DVD for Val, barely mumbles a "Thanks" before turning to shuffle his way back to his door.

As the door closes his voice, rough with grief, says, "Sorry Val, it's the best I can do."

[[OOC-Sorry, plot locked but feel free to post reactions to seeing Ben if you wish.]]

Hours ago Val had come down for breakfast only to find a note from her uncle instead. After reading the note, she ran back up to her room nearly in tears. Since then she's watched the DVD over and over and read the note many times. She can't blame her Uncle Ben and she does kind of understand but she still can't help the sting that she's not worth the face to face time. The rational side of herself points out that the kids will need more help and that she is an adult now (or close enough) and she has friends here. "But they have a family there," her emotional self replies and the two haves start in on each other so Val decides she better get some fresh air before she loses it.

So now she downstairs by the fireplace with a mug of hot chocolate with cinnamon like her Uncle Johnny used to make her when she had nightmares. And at the memory of him the tears start all over again. We're sorry if she interrupts your breakfast or lunch or whatever, she's just not at her best right now.

Karkat has not been in the bar lately; there is a good reason. When he is ready to work and not be enjoyably distracted by frustrating idiots, he has a tendency to hole up and hammer things out. He has been churning out pages and pages of screenplay in the last weeks.

He is back to working in the bar, which is a signal from his subconscious that he is not going to be able to blast through this scene with high explosives and could benefit from distraction and talking it over with others. It is the important scene near the middle of the movie where the Captain's romantic date with the Mechanic is interrupted by his discovery that she is the traitor. You can tell when he hits it because the steady pounding of his hands on the keyboard slow to a crawl, and he spends a lot of time glaring yellowly at the screen of his crabtop.

You know what, screw it. If Artie gets to take a break from MacPherson-hunting, Claudia does too.
So she's in the bar proper for the first time in weeks, curled up in her Cubefall chair and working on something in a top-bound notebook. (She really needs to finish working on that El Camino downstairs; this is getting ridiculous.)
She's also logged in on T-Minus; repositoryBadger is in the house for some trollage.

(OOC: Subject to work slowtime at 3 PM EST, but open to tags until it scrolls.)

There's a chill in the air and snow on the ground, putting a certain Welshman into the mood for a particular flavor.
