Karkat has not been in the bar lately; there is a good reason. When he is ready to work and not be enjoyably distracted by frustrating idiots, he has a tendency to hole up and hammer things out. He has been churning out pages and pages of screenplay in the last weeks.

He is back to working in the bar, which is a signal from his subconscious that he is not going to be able to blast through this scene with high explosives and could benefit from distraction and talking it over with others. It is the important scene near the middle of the movie where the Captain's romantic date with the Mechanic is interrupted by his discovery that she is the traitor. You can tell when he hits it because the steady pounding of his hands on the keyboard slow to a crawl, and he spends a lot of time glaring yellowly at the screen of his crabtop.

Eventually, he's joined by a certain Rainbow Drinker. She doesn't talk to him just yet, just settles beside him as he works and allows him to finish his thought and acknowledge her presence before greeting him.

He growls at her in acknowledgement. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"

"Watching You Work And Enjoying Your Company After Returning From Watching You Pacify Gamzee."

He glances at her, then stops and glances again. "OH. OKAY. SO YOU ARE CAUGHT UP. I GUESS THAT MEANS..." He sighs and gives the crabtop a shove back as he turns to face her more fully. "SO YOU JUST SAW VRISKA."

She lets out a long breath, then another.

"Yes. I Did."

It is weird; like taking a bookmark out of the feelings and emotions from that moment. He has been waiting weeks for the blow to land. "OKAY. WELL, I GUESS IF YOU WANDERED DOWN HERE AND BROUGHT IT UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BAR YOU ARE FEELING LIKE YOUR SHIT IS PRETTY WELL SECURED, BUT I WILL GO AHEAD AND ASK, ARE YOU OKAY?"

"I Am Not About To Collapse Into A Weeping Mess, If That's What You're Asking," she says dryly. "Whatever Vriska And I Had Between Us, Quadrant Wise, Was Needlessly Complicated And It Was Doing Neither Of Us Good. Regardless, Her Death Is Regrettable, And I Never Wished Anything Like That On Her."

"YEAH," he says. "WELL, I MEAN, I DID, PRETTY OFTEN, BUT I HAVE HAD SOME MOTHERFUCKING EPIPHANIES UP IN HERE SINCE THEN. REGARDLESS OF EVERYTHING I DON'T THINK ANY OF US DESERVED WHAT HAPPENED IN THE LAST FEW HOURS."

"OR LAST FEW SWEEPS, FOR THAT MATTER."

She sighs again.

"There Are So Few Of Us Left Now, And The Matriorb Is Destroyed...I Don't Know What We're Going To Do."

"YEAH. WELL, WE ARE GOING TO SURVIVE," he says, as business-like as he can. "AND THEN WE WILL SEE WHAT ECTOBIOLOGY AND ALCHEMY CAN DO TO PATCH UP OUR FUCKING REPRODUCTIVE MECHANISM AS A SPECIES."

"You Think Ectobiology And Alchemy Will Be Able To Help Us?"

"I DON'T KNOW, IT SEEMS LIKE THE RIGHT PLACE TO START. ECTOBIOLOGY WILL LET US BUILD UP A POPULATION AT FIRST BUT WITHOUT A MOTHERGRUB IT WILL NEVER BECOME SELF-SUSTAINING."

"DID YOU EVER ALCHEMIZE ANYTHING WITH THE MOTHERGRUB CARD?"

Kanaya shakes her head sadly.

"Unfortunately, No. I Found The Key For The Card Only Shortly Before I Attempted To Return To The Core. Then...Well...Shit Happened."

"YEAH, THAT WOULD BE TOO EASY," he sighs. "WELL, IT HAS TO BE A PART OF SOMETHING ELSE. WE CAN ALWAYS EXTRACT THE CODE MATHEMATICALLY IF WE CAN FIND OUT WHAT."

She nods.

"Sollux Can Help Us There, Assuming Terezi Can Help Him See With His Other Senses."

"YEAH. AND WE CAN ALWAYS TRY POINTING THE ECTOBIOLOGY MACHINES BACK TO CLONE IT OR YOUR LUSUS. WE STILL HAVE OPTIONS."

"It Is A Relief To Know We Aren't Completely Up The Excrement Waterway Without A Paddle"

"AS LONG AS WE ARE ALIVE WE CAN KEEP FIGHTING," Karkat says. "IF BEING TROLLS HASN'T TAUGHT US ANYTHING ELSE WORTH KNOWING THERE IS STILL THAT."

Smiling, she leans to bump his shoulder affectionately with her own.

"We Will Not Go Quietly, Nor Easily."

He grins, gleaming fangily at her. "AND WE KNOW TOO MANY DIRTY TRICKS."

"Precisely. The Rest Of The Universe Will Not Know What Hit Them."

"HOLY HELL, MARYAM, YOU ARE LUCKY YOU HAVE SUCH A GREAT FUCKING LEADER LOOKING OUT FOR YOU HERE. A LOT OF PEOPLE WOULD BE READY TO GIVE UP OR JUST NOT KNOW WHAT TO TELL YOU AFTER THAT APOCALYPTIC SHITSHOW BACK THERE."

"Yes, You Are An Excellent Leader, Karkat. It's Why We Follow You."

Beat.

"Speaking Of Which, I Had An Thought, Regarding The Four Of Us Here From Our Universes."

"OH GOD, MY FLIGHTY BOARDS AND THEIR SNARKY HORSESHITMETER JUST LEAPT INTO THE RED, EPIC ATTEMPTS TO KISS NOOK AND GET YOUR WAY DETECTED."

"GO AHEAD."

She rolls her eyes.

"I Did Not Come To Speak With You Merely To Nook-Worship And Manipulate. I Do Honestly Enjoy Spending Time With You, Karkat."
