So, she's never walked downstairs from her room and had her clothing suddenly change before. Jenny hasn't left Milliways since the disaster on New Thal and every day has been about the same for her: running, reading, studying, spending time with Bart if he's around.

But clothing changes? Yeah. So very new.

Her eyes glance downward at the change. Her trousers are now practically skin tight and laced up the side of her legs, exposing her pale skin. Black boots go up just to her knees and that white shirt she's wearing is too tight, too short, and too low cut. There are heavy gold braces on each wrist and her eyes widen.

Hands go up through her hair, now down and partially braided. There's some sort of cloth covering it and she wrinkles her nose.

But when Jenny sees the sword hanging off her waist, her eyes light up. Brilliant!

Here there's an uncanny silence.

Edward's recently appeared but he's been glancing over the room the last minute or two since being refitted, but Jenny was the latest person he found in that crowd.

The moment Jenny spots Edward in the crowd, her mental shielding jumps into place. It's an instinctual action, almost as if her brain knows to protect itself from a telepath. Any prior thoughts on how brilliant having a sword is vanish, cut off from him and anyone else listening aloud.

But she waves cheerfully, walking over and giggling when she stops in front of him. Dashing. Edward looks very dashing.

"It suits you!"

That new habit, he decides as it happens, is annoyingly bothersome.

"And you've been similarly suited by the colloquial costume regiment."

She laughed and shrugged, suddenly feeling uncomfortable in her own clothing. She reached out to gently touch the eye patch on Edward's face.

"I don't understand why all the boys I've seen are more covered than me." Her nose wrinkled. "And I don't think covering your eye is necessarily all that smart."

"It won't impair my senses," Edward said with a nonchalant shrug, aware of where her hand moved.

Jenny stifled a laugh as her hand returned to her side. It was so like him to be that arrogant!

She loved it.

"Yeah, well. Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day, Edward! You Earth-people have weird holidays."

She gets an odd expression. "I didn't chose it."

"Yeah?"

Jenny looks doubtful.

"But you're from Earth."

He eyebrows arched.

"You're holding me accountable for that many million people?"

The first descriptor was sheep, Jenny. Sheep. He is being nice.

Sheep? But they're an animal. Silly vampire.

Jenny shook her head, chuckling quietly. "No! I just mean... well, you celebrate it, don't you?"

Chagrin. The look is now chagrin.

"Why would I celebrate this?"

Giggles. More giggles.

"Because you look very dashing tonight, Edward!"

That just gets a look.

It might be questioning her intellect and her sanity.

"Have you looked in a mirror?" Jenny smiled, tilting her head a little. "It looks nice on you. It really does."

Now he'll proceed to roll his eyes.

"That is not the basis of celebrating a holiday."

"It's not?"

Jenny's lips purse into a thoughtful frown. If fancy dress is not a basis to celebrate, then what is. Rassilon, this universe is far too complicated sometimes!

"Then what is?"

Edward looked at her outfit, eyes flitting then to others near them dressed alike.

"Historical markers of rememberence or ideology."

Oh.

Her frown deepened. That didn't really sound like fun at all.

"Oh," she said quietly. "So, not a holiday?"

Her mental silence was annoying. Not so much maddening as Bella's, because Jenny's mind was not absolutely foreign to him, only obstructed now.

"To some people it is."

His wasn't helpful there, especially the pressure on 'some people.'

Jenny shook her head. That wasn't helpful at all.

"What do you mean by that?"

Edward looked over her head, brows pinching toward the center.

"That humans have a knack for making anything into an excuse in which they can dress strangely, drink copiously, and act out of sorts."

"Really?"

Well, that takes a lot of the fun out of this. She sighs and frowns, shoulders slumping.

"So I guess today isn't important, after all."

Edward just kept looking over her head at the other people all dressed up. Where he hadn't been previously annoyed at his outfit, the conversation had caused it to chafe in his mind.

Not that Alice had not convinced him into similarly frivolous clothing, but at least she ~~begged~~ asked.

First he had ruined her belief about attending her very first Earth holiday. And now he was ignoring her.

So not fair.

She scowled at him and at the same time, her mental shields dropped as her brain convinced herself that Edward would pay more attention to her if he could hear her fully.

Edward's gaze flickered back to her face, lips pressing into a frown. Her assumption was about as annoying as her playing with his ability was childish.

And maybe he disliked it even more because she was right.
