Alice Cullen entered Milliways with a knowing smile. Futures shifted when she chose this door (the door to a closet in their hallway) and she knew she'd be here.

And on her own this time! She'd only ever come with Edward but hey! What's the worst that could happen? After all, she's a Cullen and she's brave. She survived so very long on her own.

Bravery, however, doesn't cover the awkwardness of ordering a glass of blood from Bar. Luckily, it comes in a plastic cup that isn't clear. She'd not want to subject the rest of the bar to that.

"I still think Jenny Cullen sounds nice," she whispers quietly, almost inaudible to any human near. But she knows Alice can hear. Yet, she doesn't seem embarrassed. It's been a while since her hunt for a surname. Maybe she should continue it.

"A family that won't die on you - ever. Except for Dad - if I ever find him again - mine's going to. Jay is and Teddy and Donna and Teja's already dead and I'm just going to outlive all of them."

"It means you'll live forever and ever baring no accidents. Like a Time Lord."

Alice wasn't understanding. Edward got it. Edward got it entirely. But she and Edward were so alike: two soldiers not meant to live the lives they were given.

Jenny crossed her arms, too, staring at Alice. "Dad and I are the last of our kind. There isn't ever going to be anyone for me to mate with and... and Time Lords aren't..."

The Oncoming Storm. The Lonely God.

"We're not normal. Not like humans and Ood and Peladonians. The rest of the universe doesn't understand. Some people fear Dad. And others respect him on a level that I... I don't understand."

"I know that," Jenny responds, a tad frustrated.

She misses Edward. She misses debating with Edward like this.

"I've died, too. But we regenerate. Gallifreyans regenerate. And I still hate that. It contradicts everything I was born knowing."

A nod.

"I think I look between seventeen to twenty for a standard human. That was the age range the machine produced; more efficient to have generations of fully grown soldiers than to use biological," said with a disgusted noise wrinkle, "means and wait."

"Very, very slowly. According to Rassilon, his Legacy of biogenic molecules within our cells work ceaselessly to repair and prune damaged and malformed cells. It'll take hundreds of years for me to look like an adult human."

"Carlisle, right?" Jenny smiles softly; she remembers what Edward's told her of him. "I'd like to meet him someday."

[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
"That's what Edward said. And he had lots of good things to say about you, too." Her grin widened a little. "I'm really glad that he finally brought you here."

[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't matter much; Jenny isn't exactly tall to begin with.

"He said you'd love it," she answered, quoting from memory. "That you'd go seeking out the multigalactic shopping you couldn't do back home. And that if I offered, you'd say yes."

...there may be an offer in that.

[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Really?"

Her own eyes sparkled with similar excitement.

"Does this mean we can be friends? Or sisters? I don't have any sisters."

[identity profile] bitunlikely.livejournal.com 2008-11-27 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Really?"

Look at those big, blue puppy dog eyes.

Three.

Two.

One.

Have a tackling Jenny hug, Alice! "Thank you! Thank you, thank you!"

"We can go shopping whenever you want. I like travelling with other people. And... and I think it might be a good distraction from the war," Jenny answers, still beaming.
