Ramon is in the bar and is not in a good mood at all. No particular reason, he just gets like that sometimes. Company could either make it worse, or better, depending on who you are and what you have to say. Either way, he'd like to talk to someone because being pissed off on your own is never as much fun.

She stops.

"And they don't take very long."

His smile is slow, and broad and knowing.

'How about I buy you a proper drink?'

To her, that game has already been played.

So she only asks, "Why?"

'Because,' he says, as he stands, 'we are two people of a like mind and I don't run across that very often.'

He doesn't wait for a reply, just heads to Bar. He asks for whatever Elle usually has, and returns.

'Here you go.'

Elle doesn't order many things with much regularity, which means the Bar returns this order with, of all things, a glass of cheery-flavored crushed ice.

She looks a little amused at this, and sits down again when she takes it. But she doesn't thank him for it.

Instead, she asks, "You don't meet people like me that much?"

'No.'

He sits too and lights a cigarette.

'Mostly people who think I'm the Devil, or something similar.'

"And... that's a bad thing?"

It might be more unsettling that it's not clear whether she's serious or not.

She gets a long look for that one.

'They seem to think so?'

"Okay."

It doesn't sound like she has much opinion either way.

'Doesn't anyone say similar things to you?'

If they don't, he thinks thats very unfair.

"The Bar gave me horns once."

It totally counts.

There may be a snicker.

...no, there definitely is.

'Me too, way back in the day. Maybe she's trying to tell us something.'

He's trying to imagine Elle with the horn.

...with horns. Or perhaps both. Neither is very successful.

Whatever it is, Elle wouldn't get it.

(Though in her defense, on the following year, she got a toy pony.)

"Most people aren't that... religious about it."

'What, calling you evil? Maybe because you're not.'

Just really really fucked up.

'Do you have a boyfriend? Girlfriend?'

She looks neither here nor there on the whole 'evil' thing.

But she answers, easily enough, "I don't really do that."

'...what?'

Seriously. How is that possible?

"I don't have boyfriends."

Beat. "Or girlfriends."

'...why not?'

Does. Not. Compute.

...although in Elle's case, it kind of does. Who would want to get that close to someone who'd kill you just to hear the noise you'd make while doing it?

"I'm not 'good with people.'"

She even uses air quotes. But after a moment, she adds, "And I have work."

Ramon frowns. And scratches his cheek and frowns some more.

'I'm not good with people,' he points out, eventually.

'Not by their definition, anyway. And I have work. Everyone has work. It doesn't mean you can't get laid at the same time.'

He looks around the bar, then back at her.

'Especially here. There's always someone here who'll take anything.'

"You asked if I had a boyfriend."

What he's talking about doesn't seem to have anything to do with that.

'I figured for you it'd be the same thing.'

He doesn't know why. She doesn't seem the casual sex type.

She's not, for now.

It doesn't mean she comprehends the whole 'monogamy' thing.

"Why?"

'You in the habit of picking up random guys for the night?'

"... no."

It sounds like she's guessing that this is the right answer.
