The Bar has an uncanny ability to sense when Ianto comes into Milliways to brood: she always asks him to bartend on those days. He supposes this is a good thing: it keeps him from dwelling too much in his own head.

There's nothing wrong with playing to his own strengths, too.

Ianto smiles.

Catch it quick before it disappears!

"Because you like things that remind you of your glory days on the front lines?"

"Ah, the days of my youth," Jack says, with a chuckle.

"Or maybe I just found a theme that works for me. I'm stuck in my ways already. Is that terrible?"

"I don't know, sir, I rather like your ways."

"Hmm, I hadn't noticed," he replies, exceedingly dry apart from a predictable glint in the eye.

Ianto rolls his eyes. "Of course you hadn't. You're just here for the coffee."

"Oh, the ambience helps, too," Jack says innocently.

"I wouldn't mind a bit of music, myself."

He tries to look business-like. "What would you like, Captain?"

"Sometimes there are musicians in," he says, then shrugs.

"Black coffee, please. I leave type entirely up to you."

Ianto does, after all, know Jack's coffee preferences very well.

That he does, and he chooses something strong, dark, and a little nutty.

"I call this my Captain Jack special," he says, quite straight-faced, as he hands over the ~~tureen~~ mug.

"I've seen a few musicians. There's also a juke box. And a karaoke machine that apparently is evil."

He leans over the bar to confide, "It made me sing."

Jack preens, just a bit, because he is and ever will be in all ways easy.

"That's not unusual for karaoke machines," Jack says, then eyes Ianto levelly.

"I'd express sympathy, but I'm kind of imagining you in a choirboy getup right now. That's either hot, wrong or both."

"Quite wrong," Ianto says sternly, though the smirk ruins it. "Maybe a little hot."

Jack just quirks an eyebrow and sips his coffee.

Mmmm-hmm.

And it tastes great, too.

"It wasn't a choirboy kind of song, anyway," Ianto says. "It was bluesy."

"Nice," Jack approves. "Don't think I've ever heard you sing."

Let's face it, Torchwood isn't exactly a musical atmosphere.

"I don't think you have, either."

He polishes the bar top with a tea towel.

"We could remedy that any time."

Jack grins.

"I'd like that a lot. You demonstrate new layers every day, Ianto Jones."

Ianto blushes and shrugs. "That's the key to keeping a relationship interesting, innit. Mystery."

Jack is, he decides, extremely keen on that blush.

"I always knew you were a master of strategy."

"I sit up nights plotting ways to intrigue you."

Ianto hates it when he blushes.

[ooc: Sorry for the delay: neighbor came over.]

Jack will just have to make him feel better about it.

Er, in some way that won't get them both arrested for indecency.

"I am both thrilled and a little afraid."

[OOC: No worries.]

"No harm will ever come to your person, Jack," Ianto reassures him.

Jack raises a slightly flippant eyebrow.

"Nothing permanent, anyway."

"Nothing I can't kiss better," Ianto says and oh, look, he's blushing again.

Jack's smile goes abruptly anticipatory.

"I can live with that," he says, resting his chin on his fist and watching the progress of Ianto's blush with pleasure.

"Stop it," Ianto mutters and presses his hands to his face. "Have more coffee."
