The Bar has an uncanny ability to sense when Ianto comes into Milliways to brood: she always asks him to bartend on those days. He supposes this is a good thing: it keeps him from dwelling too much in his own head.

There's nothing wrong with playing to his own strengths, too.

"Greetings, Ianto Jones!" Teja says. "Or am I to say Ianto, instead of your whole name?"

He is leaning by the bar, looking very un-Gothic in jeans, sneakers, and a grey tee-shirt with a Harley Davidson logo.

Ianto blinks at him. "Greetings, Teja. Just Ianto is always fine.

"Whose wardrobe did you raid?"

"I asked the bar for clothes from the future," Teja says, "and I was given this."

Pause.

"What is in these special coffees?"

"They suit you," Ianto says.

"The Vermont has maple syrup and rum, the Gunline has spices and chocolate, and the Newfoundland has rum and a couple different liqueurs. I thought I'd mix things up a bit."

"I would have that with the maple syrup and rum," Teja says. "I know not what a 'Vermont' is, otherwise; but the mixture sounds interesting."

"A Vermont," says Ianto as he gets the coffee pot, "is a place where they grow maple trees and make syrup."

He begins mixing.

"You know, I'm almost as magically drawn to coffee called Gunline Coffee as I am to today's bartender," says a familiar voice from along the bar. Jack drapes his coat over a stool and sits, smiling.

"I wonder why that could be?"

Ianto smiles.

Catch it quick before it disappears!

"Because you like things that remind you of your glory days on the front lines?"

"Ah, the days of my youth," Jack says, with a chuckle.

"Or maybe I just found a theme that works for me. I'm stuck in my ways already. Is that terrible?"

"I don't know, sir, I rather like your ways."

"Hmm, I hadn't noticed," he replies, exceedingly dry apart from a predictable glint in the eye.

"You know," Lorne says, leaning across the bar like he's imparting a secret, "there are other beverages in the world than coffee."

"There are," Ianto confirms, "but they're not as good."

[callmemajor]

"No," Lorne concedes. "Some of them are better."

[likesthecoat]

"Depends on what you want from it, I suppose. But there are few drinks that have all the nuances and layers of coffee.

"I will serve you whatever you like, of course. I just specialize in coffee."

[callmemajor]

"Well, not on Earth, certainly," Lorne says, smirking.

"Uh...I'll have a beer, I think. Much as I'm sure your coffee is amazing."

Ben walks into Milliways, a very (very) small bathroom behind him. (Fortunately, he is dressed.)

He's obviously been here before, because he looks surprised-and-pleased, not surprised-and-shocked, and he heads towards the Bar. He sees the specials and stops short, though. "Gunline coffee? What's that?"

"It's coffee preferred by people on a gunline," Ianto says. "It's got cinnamon in, and chocolate."

Ben ponders this. "It sounds good," he says after a bit of hesitation, "but I think just regular coffee sounds better right now." After another hesitation, "What's your very best coffee?"

"Depends on how you define best," Ianto says. "Strong? Nutty? Sweet? The Klingon coffee is very popular with people who like their coffee dark and strong."

"Um. Strong, not very sweet? I've had coffee a few times here, it's one of the things that makes me regret I never got a job on Earth," Ben answers unhelpfully.

Oh, hey. There's a person behind the counter instead of relying on a sentient bit of wood. Merlin eyes the specials for a few minutes.

"I'll... try a Newfoundland." He thinks.

"It's got rum in," Ianto says as he picks up the coffee pot. "Sound like your kind of thing?"
